The influence of equine hoof conformation on the initiation and progression of laminitis

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, Volume 55, Issue 5, Page 862-871, September 2023., 2023
Abstract Background The health and performance of horses are significantly affected by diseases associated with the hoof. Laminitis is a critical hoof disease that causes pain and, potentially, severe hoof and bone pathology. Objective To generate an equine hoof finite element (FE) model to investigate the impact of normal and toe‐in hoof conformations

Tumour growth rate of carcinoma of the colon and rectum: retrospective cohort study

open access: yesBJS Open, Volume 4, Issue 6, Page 1200-1207, December 2020., 2020
Few studies have evaluated the growth pattern of colorectal cancer. Forty‐three patients who underwent CT twice more than 5 weeks apart were included over a 2‐year interval. The median doubling time was 211 days, with a concerning suggestion of tumour progression.

Diagnostic accuracy of acute diverticulitis with unenhanced low‐dose CT

open access: yesBJS Open, Volume 4, Issue 4, Page 659-665, August 2020., 2020
Unenhanced low‐dose CT (LDCT) is as accurate as contrast‐enhanced standard‐dose CT (SDCT) for detection of acute colonic diverticulitis. However, smaller complications, such as pericolic abscesses and small amounts of extraluminal air, can be missed.

Prediction of a positive circumferential resection margin at surgery following neoadjuvant chemotherapy for adenocarcinoma of the oesophagus

open access: yesBJS Open, Volume 3, Issue 6, Page 767-776, December 2019., 2019
A positive circumferential resection margin (CRM) has been shown to be an adverse prognostic indicator after oesophagectomy for adenocarcinoma. Clinical tumour status, tumour volume, poor differentiation, lack of response following chemotherapy and radiological assessment of invasion can be used to predict CRM positivity in oesophageal adenocarcinoma ...

Age- and sex-related changes of the volume of maxillary sinuses quantified via cone beam computed tomography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Anatomical studies found in cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) an optimal resource for the three-dimensional (3D) assessment of the head and neck. When it comes to the maxillary sinuses, CBCT enables a life-size reliable volumetric analysis. This study
