Continuum Mechanics Modeling of Flexible Spring Joints in Surgical Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A new mechanical model of a tendon‐actuated helical extension spring joint in surgical robots is built using Cosserat rod theory. The model can implicitly handle the unknown contacts between adjacent coils and numerically predict spring shapes from straight to significantly bent under actuation forces.

High-Pitch Spiral Computed Tomography: Effect on Image Quality and Radiation Dose in Pediatric Chest Computed Tomography

Investigative Radiology, 2011
computed tomography (CT) is considered the method of choice in thoracic imaging for a variety of indications. Sedation is usually necessary to enable CT and to avoid deterioration of image quality because of patient movement in small children. We evaluated a new, subsecond high-pitch scan mode (HPM), which obviates the need of sedation and to hold the ...

Spiral computed tomography for pulmonary embolism

Hospital Medicine, 2000
Spiral computed tomography pulmonary angiography is increasingly used in the non-invasive investigation of patients with suspected pulmonary embolism. This review will focus on current techniques and indications with an explanation of the computed tomography signs of pulmonary embolism, possible pitfalls in interpretation and limitations of the ...

Spiral computed tomography for staghorn calculi

Urology, 1997
To assess the utility of spiral computed tomography (CT) with three-dimensional reconstruction for preoperative planning of percutaneous nephrostolithotomy in patients with complex branched calculi (full staghorns).Patients with complex branched stones were imaged with spiral CT with three-dimensional reconstruction.
