HDR image compression using optimized tone mapping model

open access: yes2009 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing, 2009
In this paper, we propose a coding algorithm for High Dynamic Range Images (HDRI). Our encoder applies a tone mapping model based on scaled μ-Lawencoding, followed by a conventional Low Dynamic Range Image (LDRI) encoder. The tone mapping model is designed to minimize the difference between the tone mappedHDRI and its LDR version.

Visually-favorable tone-mapping with high compression performance

2010 IEEE International Conference on Image Processing, 2010
We develop a tone-mapping operator (TMO) that considers the perceptual quality of the tone-mapped image together with the compression efficiency. The proposed TMO is formulated as an optimization problem that incorporates statistical models of i) the quality of the tone-mapped image given a desired TMO, ii) the base layer bit-rate and iii) the ...

Embedding high dynamic range tone mapping in JPEG compression

Proceedings of SPIE, 2013
A method that integrates tone mapping for high dynamic range (HDR) gray-scale images with JPEG compression is proposed. The tone mapping operator (TMO) is block-based, and structured so that the same discrete cosine transform (DCT) that is used for the JPEG compression serves to complete a major part of the tone-mapping operation.

Compression Techniques are Lovable or Hateful: For Discrete Tone Images

2018 Second International Conference on Electronics, Communication and Aerospace Technology (ICECA), 2018
The amount of data transmission especially images over internet are rapidly increasing day by day. The effective lossless image compression becomes a greater challenge now than ever. The efficiently compressed images can be useful to remotely access multimedia file at a faster rate with lesser burden on network infrastructure.

Lossless compression of continuous-tone images via context selection, quantization, and modeling

IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 1997
Context modeling is an extensively studied paradigm for lossless compression of continuous-tone images. However, without careful algorithm design, high-order Markovian modeling of continuous-tone images is too expensive in both computational time and space to be practical.

HDR tone mapping algorithm based on difference compression with adaptive reference values

Journal of Visual Communication and Image Representation, 2017
A new local tone mapping method using adaptive reference is proposed. The detailness metric is proposed to measure detail loss in bright and dark regions. An objective quality assessment is developed to optimize parameters. The proposed method shows a good balance between detailness and naturalness.

Optimizing a Tone Curve for Backward-Compatible High Dynamic Range Image and Video Compression

IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2011
For backward compatible high dynamic range (HDR) video compression, the HDR sequence is reconstructed by inverse tone-mapping a compressed low dynamic range (LDR) version of the original HDR content. In this paper, we show that the appropriate choice of a tone-mapping operator (TMO) can significantly improve the reconstructed HDR quality.

Effect of Perineal Compression on the Rectal Tone

Diseases of the Colon & Rectum, 2003
Digital pressure on the perineum was reported to result in an increase of the rectal tone. This effect has been related to a reflex action named perineorectal reflex but was not verified. The mechanism of action of perineal pressure on the rectal tone was studied.Eighteen healthy volunteers (mean age +/- standard deviation, 39.7 +/- 11.8 years; 10 ...

Compression of color images using a hologram of gray tones

SPIE Proceedings, 2007
A strategy for to compress color images in digital holograms of gray tones was developed. The procedure codifies the information of each channel of the RGB model in a system of fringes, it is a gray image denominated "hologram". The fringes in their intensity of gray tone carry the signal of the channel, in this manner the amplitude information for ...
