Therapeutic evaluation of electrochemical therapy combined with local injection of pingyangmycin for the treatment of venous malformations in the tongue

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology
BackgroundVenous malformations are congenital developmental abnormalities that consist of enlarged dysplastic blood vessels. The tongue is a common site of venous malformations in the head and neck region. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the

Progress in animation of an EMA-controlled tongue model for acoustic-visual speech synthesis [PDF]

open access: yesElektronische Sprachsignalverarbeitung 2011 TUDpress (Ed.) (2011) 245-252, 2012
We present a technique for the animation of a 3D kinematic tongue model, one component of the talking head of an acoustic-visual (AV) speech synthesizer. The skeletal animation approach is adapted to make use of a deformable rig controlled by tongue motion capture data obtained with electromagnetic articulography (EMA), while the tongue surface is ...

Structured Electrodes for Lithium‐Ion Batteries and Their Impact on Cell Energy Density and Power Density: A Review

open access: yesAdvanced Energy and Sustainability Research, EarlyView.
This review explores structured electrode designs for lithium‐ion batteries, aiming to enhance energy and power density through optimized electrode parameters such as mass loading, thickness, porosity, and tortuosity. Structuring techniques like laser ablation, multilayer structuring, and interdigitated architectures are evaluated using the Ragone ...

Contour-based 3d tongue motion visualization using ultrasound image sequences [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
This article describes a contour-based 3D tongue deformation visualization framework using B-mode ultrasound image sequences. A robust, automatic tracking algorithm characterizes tongue motion via a contour, which is then used to drive a generic 3D Finite Element Model (FEM). A novel contour-based 3D dynamic modeling method is presented.

The effect of orofacial myofunctional treatment in children with anterior open bite and tongue dysfunction: a pilot study.

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Orthodontics, 2016
OBJECTIVES Insufficient attention is given in the literature to the early treatment of anterior open bite (AOB) subjects receiving orofacial myofunctional therapy (OMT), which aims to harmonize the orofacial functions.

Spring and Power in Hovering Ornithopters

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Only small ornithopters can hover, longest at the hummingbird size. This article reviews the drive and power of these hovering machines, focusing on elastic energy and thrust boosters. Unlike two‐winged designs, X‐winged and multiple‐V‐winged ornithopters benefit from lower disk loading and slower, smaller wingbeats, and the clap‐and‐fling effect ...

Deep Learning Methods in Soft Robotics: Architectures and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Soft robotics has seen intense research over the past two decades and offers a promising approach for future robotic applications. However, standard industrial methods may be challenging to apply to soft robots. Recent advances in deep learning provide powerful tools to analyze and design complex soft machines that can operate in unstructured ...
