Paclitaxel induces NM2‐dependent cellular contraction through GEF‐H1 dissociation from microtubules and RhoA/ROCK activation in cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Taxanes are widely used chemotherapeutics whose effects on cellular mechanics remain poorly understood. We show that paclitaxel induces rapid cellular contraction by promoting GEF‐H1 dissociation from microtubules and non‐muscle myosin II activation through RhoA/ROCK.

How Recent Findings in Electromyographic Analysis and Synergistic Control Can Impact on New Directions for Muscle Synergy Assessment in Sports

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Muscle synergy is a state-of-the-art method for quantifying motor control with multichannel electromyographic (EMG) recordings. Muscle synergies have been used in many sports-related applications, including swimming, baseball, basketball, and other ...

Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

Annual preventive maintenance scheduling for thermal units in an electric power system [PDF]

open access: yesYugoslav Journal of Operations Research, 2010
The system approach to the problem of preventive maintenance scheduling for thermal units in a large scale electric power system is considered in this paper. The maintenance scheduling program determines a set of thermal units maintenance switch

Evaluating GenAI‐produced feedback on undergraduate bioscience essays against good higher education feedback practice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This pilot study investigates the potential of Generative AI to provide formative feedback to students. ChatGPT was prompted to provide feedback on Year 1 Bioscience essays, which were evaluated against established good feedback practices. GenAI‐authored feedback had useful elements, but was limited in scope. GenAI may have potential to provide instant,

Self‐Regulated Learning Meets AI: Reinterpreting Self‐Regulation, Co‐Regulation, and Socially Shared Regulation in Human–AI Interaction

open access: yesNew Directions for Adult and Continuing Education, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Advancing artificial intelligence (AI) has transformed learning and work, yet higher education and professional development programs have not systematically equipped learners for AI‐prevalent environments. This lack of preparation creates uncertainty regarding control, responsibility, trust, and accountability.

SPG4 and Dementia: Expanding the Clinical Spectrum

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP) is a group of disorders characterized by progressive spasticity and lower limb weakness, with mutations in SPG4/SPAST being the most common cause. Detailed studies and clinical and molecular comparisons across different populations are missing.

Pathophysiological role of extrasynaptic GABAA receptors in typical absence epilepsy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
GABA is the principal inhibitory neurotransmitter in the mammalian CNS. It acts via two classes of receptors, the GABAA, a ligand gated ion channel (ionotropic receptor) and the metabotropic G-protein coupled GABAB receptor.
