Increased Numbers of CD4+ T‐Cells in the Hypocretin/Orexin Region of Narcolepsy Type 1

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Narcolepsy type 1 (NT1) is presumed to be an autoimmune disorder caused by hypothalamic loss of hypocretin (Hcrt; orexin). In postmortem NT1 brains, we observed an 11‐fold increase of CD4+ T‐cells in the Hcrt region compared with control hypothalami, without a corresponding rise in CD8+ T‐cells.

Engineering Tertiary Lymphoid Structures: Nanomedicine, Bioengineering, and Biomaterials for Precision Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
This review explains how biomaterials and nanoparticles can be used to induce or modulate tertiary lymphoid structures (TLSs), which are ectopic immune hubs that form in nonlymphoid tissues during chronic disease and cancer. By comparing different methods, the article highlights design principles for modeling TLSs or recapitulating specific TLS ...

TONSIL DISSECTOR, TONSIL-GRASPING FORCEPS, TONSIL HEMORRHAGE CLAMP [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Medical Association, 1912
One end of the dissector (Fig. 1) is a retractor for the anterior pillar while applying forceps, and while inspecting the cavity from which the tonsil was removed. The other end is for dissecting out the tonsil. The edge is neither dull nor sharp, but rather an edge that is produced by the use of a fairly rough oilstone, and will cut when given a quick

Chiari I Malformation: Review and Update of Current Treatment Options

open access: yesClinical Anatomy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The pathophysiology of Chiari malformation type I (CM‐I) is complex, involving structural abnormalities at the craniovertebral junction that result in herniation of the cerebellar tonsils through the foramen magnum. In this study, we aim to present and evaluate current treatment options for CM‐I, with a focus on evidence‐based clinical ...
