Toolpath generation for freeform surface models
Computer-Aided Design, 1994The authors deal with the problem of generation of optimal NC codes to drive milling machines for models defined by freeform trimmed surfaces. The underlying mathematical problem consists in generation of toolpaths for surfaces. Two previous methods are combined and form the basis for new adaptive isocurve algorithms.

Pocketing toolpath optimization for sharp corners
Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2007Abstract In pocket milling, there may be residual material left at sharp corners when stepover is inappropriately large in contour-parallel tool paths. According to this problem, the paper proposes an improved NC toolpath generation strategy in order to optimize NC machining processes for pocket milling.

NC toolpath generation for arbitrary pockets with Islands
The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 1996This paper presents an efficient algorithm for generating cutter paths for the NC milling of arbitrary pockets with multiple islands. In this algorithm, the pocket border and island profiles are made up of concave or convex segments comprising linear and circular arc elements.

Toolpath based on Hilbert's curve
Computer-Aided Design, 1994Abstract An algorithm for generating a toolpath for a milling machine is described. The approach to its design was interdisciplinary. The algorithm contains ideas from computer graphics and mathematics, rather than mechanical engineering alone. An artefact described by any set of curved surfaces is carved out of a workpiece in two stages.

Toolpath Generation for Robot Filleting
2019Filleting is a finishing process of rounding off the edge to blunt the sharpness as well as to improve the component’s durability by distributing the stress concentration over a larger area, thus enabling the filleted component to last long. Though the filleting process is widespread in manufacturing industry due to its effectiveness, the operation ...

Automating toolpath generation for 3-Axis CNC
2016 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT), 2016In this paper we present toolpath generator which can produce steps of manufacturing along with the toolpaths for any 3D volumetric model. To achieve this automation, we propose sequence generation algorithm that generates sequence of setup orientations required to machine the design.

Adaptive trochoidal toolpath for complex pockets machining
International Journal of Production Research, 2016This work proposes a novel adaptive trochoidal (TR) toolpath model for complex pocket machining. The proposed model is able to adjust its TR radius, while simultaneously offers an adaptive trochoidal step for generation of each toolpath cycle. With the varying radius, complex regions can be machined by a single strip of TR toolpath.

Toolpath optimization for minimizing airtime during machining
Journal of Manufacturing Systems, 2003Abstract This paper describes an algorithm for minimizing the non-productive time or ‘airtime’ for milling by optimally connecting different toolpath segments. This problem is formulated as a generalized traveling salesman problem with precedence constraints and is solved using a heuristic method.
