Collision-free finishing toolpaths from visibility data

Computer-Aided Design, 2003
We present a series of algorithms and heuristics for generating collision-free 5-axis CNC finishing toolpaths automatically. These algorithms are based on the core concept of visibility, which can be generated in high resolution by discretizing the part and using graphics hardware as described in earlier papers by the authors.

Toolpath Planning for Cold Spray Additive Manufacturing

2021
Cold spray (CS) has recently become one of the popular additive manufacturing (AM) processes, which allows forming large volume objects fast without the risk of undesirable heat effects. However, this unique technology still has some limitations in additive manufacturing application.

Pocketing toolpath computation using an optimization method

Computer-Aided Design, 2011
This paper proposes a new method of pocketing toolpath computation based on an optimization problem with constraints. Generally, the calculated toolpath has to minimize the machining time and respect a maximal effort on the tool during machining. Using this point of view, the toolpath can be considered as the result of an optimization in which the ...

Intelligent toolpath for extrusion‐based LM process

Rapid Prototyping Journal, 2001
To fabricate high quality parts, and to make the development generic yet compatible with the in‐house hardware, a virtual simulation system has been developed, and an in‐house intelligent multi‐material toolpath generation system has been under development.

Hilbert Curve Based Toolpath for FDM Process

2016
Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) is one of the most widespread additive manufacturing technique used for fabricating 3D objects without any design constraints. It is a solid-based process in which polymers material in the form of semi molten state is extruded from the nozzle to fabricate the 3D objects. In the present work, a new tool path strategy for

Computing Toolpaths for 5-Axis NC Machines

2010
We present several algorithms for computing a feasible tool-path with desired features for sculpting a given surface using a 5-axis numerically controlled (NC) machine in computer-aided manufacturing. A toolpath specifies the orientation of a cutting tool at each point of a path taken by the tool.

Material Extrusion Infill Strength Under Different Toolpaths

Volume 1: Additive Manufacturing; Advanced Materials Manufacturing; Biomanufacturing; Life Cycle Engineering
Abstract Additive manufacturing continues to change many aspects of the manufacturing industry. Although widely implemented in industry for the design and prototype stages of product development, printing speed is the critical factor that prevents the technology from being implemented in medium and large-scale production environments ...

Feed-Rate Control along Multi-axis Toolpaths

2014
This article focuses on options for feed-rate control in NC programs for multi-axis machining. In order to achieve adequate surface quality of machined parts, it is crucial for the production engineer to observe the programmed feed rate. Therefore the feed-rate characteristic along a toolpath has been measured first without the tool center point ...

Optimization of toolpath trajectories on arbitrary surfaces

2014
Given an arbitrary region on the plane, modelled as a graph with a symmetry, we describe a procedure to find the best orientation for slicing, via a zigzag tool-path trajectory based curve, in order to minimize its discontinuities. We also develop some directions on how to generalize the procedure up to the level of optimizing tool-path trajectories on
