Pocketing toolpath optimization for sharp corners

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2007
Abstract In pocket milling, there may be residual material left at sharp corners when stepover is inappropriately large in contour-parallel tool paths. According to this problem, the paper proposes an improved NC toolpath generation strategy in order to optimize NC machining processes for pocket milling.

Toolpath optimization for minimizing airtime during machining

Journal of Manufacturing Systems, 2003
Abstract This paper describes an algorithm for minimizing the non-productive time or ‘airtime’ for milling by optimally connecting different toolpath segments. This problem is formulated as a generalized traveling salesman problem with precedence constraints and is solved using a heuristic method.

Pocketing toolpath computation using an optimization method

Computer-Aided Design, 2011
This paper proposes a new method of pocketing toolpath computation based on an optimization problem with constraints. Generally, the calculated toolpath has to minimize the machining time and respect a maximal effort on the tool during machining. Using this point of view, the toolpath can be considered as the result of an optimization in which the ...

Toolpath Optimization on Automatic Removal Uncut and Application

Key Engineering Materials, 2009
In milling pocket corner, there maybe residual material left at sharp corners when stepover is extremely large in contour-parallel toolpath. This paper describes an improved pocket toolpath by inserting biarc transitions segments in contour-parallel toolpath. When reaching the sharp corner, the cutter moves along the biarc transitions toolpath so that

A heuristic feedrate optimization strategy for NURBS toolpaths

CIRP Annals, 2008
Abstract This paper presents a new and computationally efficient feedrate optimization strategy for spline toolpaths. The technique combines analytically derived compatibility equations with a heuristic search method, which helps generate feed profiles with reduced cycle time while adhering to axis velocity, acceleration, torque, and jerk constraints.
