Toolpath planning for additive manufacturing using sliced model decomposition and metaheuristic algorithms

Advances in Engineering Software, 2020
Abstract Fabrication efficiency has long been a challenge for additive manufacturing. Standard toolpath generation processes usually give rise to a significant number of non-productive motions that undermine production efficiency and degrade part quality due to frequent acceleration and deceleration in wasted motions.

Kinematics Constrained Toolpath Planning for Five-Axis Machines

2008
This paper presents a new general toolpath planning method which considers two important types of constraints: the kinematics constraint and the geometric feature constraints. The contact kinematics theory for rigid bodies is used to incorporate the two types of constraints into our optimization framework.

Voxel-Based Adaptive Toolpath Planning Using Graphics Processing Unit for Freeform Surface Machining

Journal of Manufacturing Science and Engineering, 2021
Abstract Today, freeform surfaces are widely used on products in automobile, aerospace, and die/molds industries, which are generally manufactured using multi-axis computer numerical control (CNC) machines. Frequent changes in the design of products necessitate creating CNC part programs that need fast and accurate toolpath generation ...

Automatic Process Planning and Toolpath Generation of a Multiaxis Hybrid Manufacturing System

Journal of Manufacturing Processes, 2005
With the integration of multiaxis layered manufacturing and material removal (machining) processes, a hybrid system has more capability and flexibility to build complicated geometry with a single setup. Process planning to integrate the two different processes is a key issue.

A topological hierarchy-based approach to toolpath planning for multi-material layered manufacturing

Computer-Aided Design, 2006
This paper proposes a topological hierarchy-based approach to toolpath planning for multi-material layered manufacturing (MMLM) of heterogeneous prototypes. The approach facilitates control of MMLM and increases the fabrication efficiency of complex objects by generating multi-toolpaths that avoid redundant tool movements and potential collisions.

Barrel cutter design and toolpath planning for high-efficiency machining of freeform surface

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2015
Improvement of machining efficiency is always one of the most interesting problems in CNC machining. Traditionally, the ball-end cutter is widely used in sculptured surface machining for the highly flexible controllability. But the process efficiency is low especially for freeform surface machining, which generally needs multiple tool-paths. To improve
