Toolpath strategy for cutter life improvement in plunge milling of AISI H13 tool steel

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering, 2018
Machinability of AISI H13 tool steel is a prominent issue since the material has the characteristics of high hardenability, excellent wear resistance, and hot toughness. A method of improving cutter life of AISI H13 tool steel plunge milling by alternating the toolpath and cutting conditions is proposed.

Fabrication‐Directed Entanglement for Designing Chiral and Anisotropic Metamaterial Foams

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 2, 21 January 2026.
This work introduces fabrication‐directed entanglement (FDE), combining viscous thread printing and topology optimization to program entangled foams with spatially patterned stiffness. By tuning coil density, FDE enables anisotropy, programmable Poisson's ratio, and chirality in foams.

A New Methodology of Finding Optimal Toolpath and Tooling Strategies for Robotic-Assisted Arthroplasty

open access: yesJournal of Medical Devices, 2016
Robotic total hip arthroplasty is a procedure in which a milling operation is performed on the femur followed by insertion of a prosthetic implant. Although surgeons operate the robots, they do not control the choice of robotic tools and cutting strategies of the robot.

Programmable Compliance in Small‐Diameter Vascular Grafts by Design of Melt‐Electrowritten Scaffold Architectures for In Situ Tissue Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 15, Issue 2, 14 January 2026.
Small‐diameter vascular grafts with compliance tunable by design are fabricated via melt electrowriting. By controlling the winding angle of intertwined helical fibers, grafts with compliances matching those of human vessels, from veins to arteries, are realized. This holds the potential of avoiding a compliance mismatch, which has been identified as a
