AXIN2, Tooth Agenesis, and Colorectal Cancer

Abstract Mutations in the human AXIN2 gene cause dominantly inherited tooth agenesis with severe but variable phenotype. At the same time, they predispose to colorectal cancer. The role of AXIN2 as a regulator of Wnt (wingless)-signaling is in line with the well-established role of deregulated β-catenin activity in promoting colon cancer.
