The Keystone‐Pathogen Hypothesis Updated: The Role of Porphyromonas gingivalis in Periodontitis

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
Porphyromonas gingivalis orchestrates a coordinated manipulation of immune and inflammatory responses in periodontal tissues which leads to the generation of a dysbiotic, subgingival biofilm community, and progression of periodontitis. The type 9 secretion system, lipid A modification, and the formation of outer membrane vesicles are important ...

Cross‐Sectional Studies: Strengths, Limitations, and Methodological Considerations

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
Cross‐sectional studies measure variables at a single time point to estimate prevalence and support descriptive epidemiology ‐ characterizing population health, tracking trends via repeated surveys – and for developing and validating screening instruments and diagnostic models.

Diet Quality as a Mediator Linking Tooth Loss and Cardiovascular Diseases in Older Adults

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
Drawing on a large, nationally representative population of older American adults (n = 3610), the study shows that individuals with more than eight missing teeth have a 6%–10% higher likelihood of cardiovascular disease compared with those with fewer tooth losses.

Biomechanical Assessment of Root Torque in Clear Aligners: Impact of Trimline Design, Engagers, and Pressure Points With Palatal Compensation Movement

open access: yesOrthodontics &Craniofacial Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Root torque control is essential for guiding the proper movement of anterior teeth, primarily to prevent periodontal complications. This movement, in clear aligner therapy (CAT), requires precise force application to minimize unintended displacements.

Dental Arch Expansion With In‐House Clear Aligners: An Exploratory Prospective Clinical Study on Torque, Vertical Control and Attachment Configuration

open access: yesOrthodontics &Craniofacial Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To evaluate the short‐term efficacy of transverse dental arch expansion with in‐house aligners (IHA) by comparing planned and achieved buccolingual movements, and secondarily to explore torque expression, vertical control and the influence of attachment design/position using a contralateral within‐subject approach.

English Longitudinal Study of Ageing: Associations Between Common Mental Disorder and Oral Health

open access: yesOral Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim To assess the relationship between common mental disorder and oral health in a representative sample of older adults in England. Methods We analyzed cross‐sectional data from 8620 individuals aged 50 years and over who participated in the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing, wave 3 (2006–2007). Common mental disorder (no/yes) was assessed

Impact of Dental Status on Heart Transplantation Outcomes

open access: yesOral Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Oral infections and poor dental health may contribute to systemic complications after heart transplantation, yet data on their impact is limited. In the absence of standardized dental guidelines for transplant candidates, this study evaluated preoperative dental status and its association with post‐transplant outcomes.
