Salivary acquired pellicle (SAP) is a layer of proteins and glycoproteins of salivary origin that tightly coat the tooth surface. Statherin is an important part of the SAP. The initial six-peptide sequence DpSpSEEK (where pS denotes phosphorylated serine)

Microstructural features of dipnoan tooth enamel
Archives of Oral Biology, 1990Tooth plates of extant lungfishes were examined by contact microradiography, light microscopy and TEM, to elucidate the nature and origin of the hypermineralized surface layer. TEM indicated that the matrix of this layer consisted of organic filamentous material, and no collagen fibres were seen in the matrix. The matrix appeared to be secreted by oral

Dose rate assessment in tooth enamel
Quaternary Science Reviews, 1988Abstract A mammoth found in the southern part of Germany was dated by ESR spectroscopy. This dating method is based on the measurement of the accumulated dose in tooth enamel and assessment of the annual dose. The accumulated dose is obtained from the radiation induced ESR signal at g = 2.0018 of the enamel.

Thermal decomposition of human tooth enamel
Calcified Tissue International, 1980Further insight into human tooth enamel, dense fraction (TE), has been obtained by following the change and loss of CO3(2-), OH-, structurally incorporated H2O, Cl-, and, indirectly, HPO4(2-) after TE had been heated in N2 or vacuum in the range 25-1000 degrees C.

Protein conformation in rat tooth enamel
Archives of Oral Biology, 1986Orientated 0.47 nm reflections in X-ray diffraction patterns of developing rat tooth enamel were confirmed using a wide range of specimen preparations and experimental conditions. This indicates that some of the organic matrix proteins adopt a beta-sheet conformation.

Nanostructure of carious tooth enamel lesion
Acta Biomaterialia, 2014Carious lesions exhibit a complex structural organization composed of zones of higher and lower mineralization, formed by successive periods of cyclic de- and re-mineralization. A thorough understanding of the lesion morphology is necessary for the development of suitable treatments aiming to repair rather than replace the damaged tissue. This detailed

A discoloured anterior tooth: enamel microabrasion
British Dental Journal, 2019Objectives The aim of this article is to present an easy to use, conservative method for managing discolouration in enamel in general practice. Materials and methods Microabrasion was used in this case to remove superficial layers of discoloured enamel utilising abrasive acids, which was further improved by using ICON, a newly developed resin ...

Measurement of opalescence of tooth enamel
Journal of Dentistry, 2007Opalescent dental esthetic restoratives look natural and esthetic in any light, react to light in the same manner as the natural tooth and show improved masking effect. The objective of this study was to determine the opalescence of tooth enamel with reflection spectrophotometers.Color of intact bovine and human enamel was measured in the reflectance ...

Organic Matrix of Tooth Enamel
Nature, 1960LITTLE is known about the chemical nature of the organic matrix of enamel, although it presumably plays an essential part in the initiation and organization of the growth of hydroxyapatite crystals. The mature enamel finally resulting from these processes is the hardest and most highly mineralized of vertebrate tissues. Other mineralized tissues, bone1

Some observations of tooth enamel surfaces
Archives of Oral Biology, 1960Abstract The relatively flat portions of the labial surfaces of human central incisor teeth were polished with various abrasives, in an attempt to produce consistently reproducible surfaces for the comparison of the effects of various treatments.
