Association between Tooth Loss and Gastric Cancer: A Meta-Analysis of Observational Studies. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Observational studies showed that tooth loss is associated with gastric cancer, but the findings are inconsistent. In this study, a meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate the relationship between tooth loss and gastric cancer.

TreeSpider: In‐Canopy Exploration With Tether‐Based Aerial Modular Arms

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A tethered drone with perching arms and a 360° ring enables unprecedented maneuverability within dense forest canopies. By dynamically adjusting tether length and decoupling pitch from the frame, it navigates between branches, senses multiple trees, and interacts physically with foliage.

Thermally induced mechanical stress in the stator windings of electrical machines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The lifetime of an electrical machine mainly depends on the thermal overloading. Modern day applications of electrical machines on one hand require compact machines with high power density, while on the other hand force electrical machines to undergo ...

CRP Deficiency Rescues Periodontitis‐Induced Hippocampal Neurogenesis Impairment by Suppressing OPC‐Derived BMP4 Signaling in Rats

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Chronic periodontitis elevates circulating CRP, which enters the hippocampus to upregulate BMP4 in oligodendrocyte precursor cells (OPCs), thereby impairing neurogenesis and inducing anxiety/depression‐like behaviors in rats. Counteracting this pathway, CRP deficiency helps confer functional resilience to OPCs.

Exploring lived experiences with tooth loss among fully edentulous patients attending Makerere University Dental Hospital, Kampala, Uganda

open access: yesBMC Oral Health
Background One of the most prevalent oral health issues affecting mankind is tooth loss. Besides extractions due to periodontal disease and caries, accidents and lack of dental knowledge can also result in tooth loss.

Periodontitis Induces B Cell‐Macrophage Crosstalk to Exacerbate Glucose Dysregulation in Obesity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In obesity, periodontitis exacerbates hyperglycemia and exhibits a liver‐centric preference for glucose regulation. This occurs through a periodontitis‐driven circuit between pathogenic B cells and hepatic macrophages. Their reciprocal expansion, orchestrated by the NLRP3/IL‐18 signaling pathway, amplifies metabolic inflammation and disrupts glucose ...

A latent factor model for spatial data with informative missingness [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A large amount of data is typically collected during a periodontal exam. Analyzing these data poses several challenges. Several types of measurements are taken at many locations throughout the mouth.
