THE TOP QUARK [PDF]

open access: yesAnnual Review of Nuclear and Particle Science, 1996
▪ Abstract  Since the discovery of the bottom quark in 1977, physicists have searched for the top quark, the weak isospin partner of the bottom quark. Indirect evidence and estimates of its mass have been made; however, direct observation eluded scientists until recently.

Top-quark mass measurement [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The top quark is the heaviest elementary particle. Its mass is one of the fundamental parameters of the standard model of particle physics, and an important input to precision electroweak tests.

Studying Same-Sign Top Pair Production through Top-Higgs FCNC Interactions at the HL-LHC

open access: yesAdvances in High Energy Physics, 2022
We investigate the potential of the HL-LHC for discovering new physics effects via the same-sign top pair signatures. We focus on the semileptonic (electron and muon) decay of the top quarks and study the reach for a simplified model approach where top ...

Top-quark physics at the CLIC electron-positron linear collider

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2019
The Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) is a proposed future high-luminosity linear electron-positron collider operating at three energy stages, with nominal centre-of-mass energies s $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 380 GeV, 1.5 TeV, and 3 TeV.

Top-Quark Mass and Bottom-Quark Decay [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 1983
The possibility of a long B-meson lifetime is explored, in which case the weak mixing angles θ_2 and θ_3 are quite small. This allows the derivation of a lower bound on the top-quark mass as a function of the B-meson lifetime, by comparison of the short-distance prediction for the CP-nonconservation parameter e with its experimental value. The bound is

Top Quark Measurements in CMS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Measurements involving top quarks provide important tests of QCD. A selected set of top quark measurements in CMS including the strong coupling constant, top quark pole mass, constraints on parton distribution functions, top quark pair differential cross

Different demographic drivers of recovery in two adjacent populations of a long‐lived bird of prey

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Understanding the demographic mechanisms underlying population decline or recovery is critical for conservation and management, yet similar population trends may arise from very different underlying processes. Comparing populations of vulnerable species groups like long‐lived raptors in different environments can reveal how species respond to change ...

Bottom-quark fragmentation in top-quark decay [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Physics B, 2002
We study the fragmentation of the b quark in top decay in NLO QCD, within the framework of perturbative fragmentation, which allows one to resum large logarithms $\sim\log (m_t^2/m_b^2)$. We show the b-energy distribution, which we compare with the exact ${\cal O} (α_S)$ result for a massive b quark.

Measurement of masses in the t(t)over-bar system by kinematic endpoints in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This article is the pre-print version of the final published paper that is available from the link below.A simultaneous measurement of the top-quark, W-boson, and neutrino masses is reported for tt events selected in the dilepton final state from a data ...

Probing the anomalous electromagnetic dipole moments of the top quark in γp collision at the LHC, the HL-LHC and the HE-LHC

open access: yesNuclear Physics B, 2020
The determination of the electromagnetic dipole moments of the top quark is one of the most important goals of the top quark physics program in the collider experiments. For this reason, the top quark pair production to investigate the sensitivity on the
