Parametric instability analysis of deepwater top-tensioned risers considering variable tension along the length

Journal of Ocean University of China, 2015
Parametric instability of a riser is caused by fluctuation of its tension in time due to the heave motion of floating platform. Many studies have tackled the problem of parametric instability of a riser with constant tension. However, tension in the riser actually varies linearly from the top to the bottom due to the effect of gravity.

An Optimization Method of Top Tension in Drilling Riser–Conductor System

Arabian Journal for Science and Engineering, 2016
Drilling riser–conductor system is crucial to the offshore drilling. Complex marine environment can give rise to a series of problems such as buckling and stability on riser–conductor system. A novel method that introduces the optimization of top tension and calculates axial force has been proposed.

Multi-Mode Motion Dynamics of a Top Tensioned Riser Excited by Vortices and Varying Tension

International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 2022
A coupled model of a top tensioned riser (TTR) under combined excitations from vortices and time-varying tension is proposed. And the van der Pol oscillator is introduced to simulate the time-varying characteristics of vortex shedding. The first three mode approximations as a six degree-of-freedom (DOF) system of vibrations of the fluid-structure ...

Modeling Approach of Hydropneumatic Tensioner for Top-Tensioned Riser

Journal of Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering, 2018
A three-dimensional (3D) finite element analysis (FEA) model of top-tensioned riser (TTR) with hydropneumatic tensioner is proposed in this work. First, the tension calculation equation of the hydropneumatic system is derived, and the kinematic relationship of the platform–tensioner–riser system is established.

Interference of Top Tensioned Risers for Tension Leg Platforms

Volume 5B: Pipelines, Risers, and Subsea Systems, 2017
Dry tree top-tensioned risers (TTRs) are widely used on floating production systems such as TLPs and Spars for drilling, completion, workover and production. The interference between neighboring TTRs is an important consideration which has a direct impact on the total TTR payload budget and the wellbay size for floater sizing and cost.

Top Tension Riser Fatigue Monitoring System

Volume 4: Pipeline and Riser Technology, 2011
ATP Oil and Gas Corporation (ATP) is utilizing the MinDOC 3 vessel design for their Mirage, Morgus and Telemark fields. The modeling techniques utilized during the design and verification stages of the project suggest that the production top tension risers (TTR) may be affected by a phenomenon known as Wake Induced Oscillation (WIO).

Critical Aspects to the Design and Installation of Top Tensioned Risers

Volume 3: Pipeline and Riser Technology; CFD and VIV, 2007
Dual and single casing top tensioned risers are widely used by operators for deepwater floating production facility developments. These riser types provide direct vertical access for completions and workover. These single and dual barrier risers are a stable riser concept utilizing the effective tension distribution between casings and tubing to ...
