Potential of the ESA23B maize population for protein and oil content improvement

open access: yesScientia Agricola, 2003
Among the traits that may add commercial value to maize (Zea mays L.), those related to nutritional quality, specially protein and oil content, are of great interest to the feed industry. The objective of this work was studying the variability of protein

Genetic Distance Estimated by RAPD Markers and Performance of Topcross Hybrids in Popcorn

open access: yes, 2012
The purpose of this study was to investigate the diversity of 14 popcorn populations and a broad genetic base tester using molecular RAPD markers and to estimate the correlation between the genetic distances and the performance of topcross hybrids.

<b>Breeding potential of S4 maize lines in topcrosses for agronomic and forage traits [PDF]

open access: yesActa Scientiarum. Agronomy, 2016
This study aimed to evaluate the performance of 46 maize lines (S4) obtained from crosses between the commercial hybrids Penta x P30F53 in topcrosses with the commercial simple cross hybrid Dow8460 (tester) and checks (hybrids Penta, P30F53, Dow8460 and Status).

The Topcross Progeny Tests of Sires Used for Inbreeding in Poultry

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1954
Abstract THE performance of his topcross progeny should give the best estimate of the breeding worth of an inbred male used for this purpose. Since inbreeding increases homozygosity, the value of topcrossing might be increased by mating the best cross-progeny tested males with their sisters.

Selection of inbred maize (Zea mays L.) progenies by topcrosses conducted in contrasting environments

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Research, 2016
The aim of this study was to identify inbred progenies of S0:1 maize (Zea mays L.) plants that were efficient at a low level of technology and responsive at a high level of technology through the use of topcrosses. Two contrasting environments were created using two levels of base fertilization and topdressing, so that the levels of nitrogen ...

Using scab resistant donors in apple breeding

open access: yesPlant Protection Science, 2002
Apple cultivars were crossed according to the half-diallel and topcross mating design. Apple scab resistance of seedlings was estimated by using a 0-5 scale: 0 - no infection on leaves, 5 - more than 75% of leaf area infected.
