CURVATURE APPROXIMATION FROM PARABOLIC SECTORS

open access: yesImage Analysis and Stereology, 2017
We propose an invariant three-point curvature approximation for plane curves based on the arc of a parabolic sector, and we analyze how closely this approximation is to the true curvature of the curve.

On totally umbilical and minimal surfaces of the Lorentzian Heisenberg groups

open access: yesMathematische Nachrichten, Volume 298, Issue 6, Page 1922-1942, June 2025.
Abstract This paper has manifold purposes. We first introduce a description of the Gauss map for submanifolds (both spacelike and timelike) of a Lorentzian ambient space and relate the conformality of the Gauss map of a surface to total umbilicity and minimality.

Focal decompositions for linear differential equations of the second order

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, Volume 2003, Issue 14, Page 813-821, 2003., 2003
Focal decomposition associated to an ordinary differential equation of the second order is a partition of the set of all two‐points boundary value problems according to the number of their solutions. Two equations are called focally equivalent if there exists a homomorphism of the set of two‐points problems to itself such that the image of the focal ...

On the construction of group invariant non expansive operators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In questa tesi vengono illustrati metodi di topologia computazionale negli ambiti di topological data analysis e shape comparison. Nello specifico, dato uno spazio topologico X e un sottogruppo G di Homeo(X), viene studiato un set di dati Φ composto da ...

Zero‐curvature subconformal structures and dispersionless integrability in dimension five

open access: yesJournal of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 110, Issue 6, December 2024.
Abstract We extend the recent paradigm “Integrability via Geometry” from dimensions 3 and 4 to higher dimensions, relating dispersionless integrability of partial differential equations to curvature constraints of the background geometry. We observe that in higher dimensions on any solution manifold, the symbol defines a vector distribution equipped ...

Optimal bound for the number of (−1)‐curves on extremal rational surfaces

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, Volume 31, Issue 2, Page 123-126, 2002., 2002
We give an optimal bound for the number of (−1)‐curves on an extremal rational surface X under the assumption that −KX is numerically effective and having self‐intersection zero. We also prove that a nonelliptic extremal rational surface has at most nine (−1)‐curves.

Evaluating cryptographic vulnerabilities created by quantum computing in industrial control systems

open access: yesJournal of Critical Infrastructure Policy, Volume 5, Issue 2, Page 88-110, Fall/Winter 2024.
Abstract Quantum computing is expected to eventually be able to break the public‐key cryptography algorithms currently used throughout information technology (IT) infrastructure, undermining foundational tools used to maintain information security across the country's critical infrastructure.

On real hypersurfaces in quaternionic projective space with 𝒟⊥‐recurrent second fundamental tensor

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, Volume 22, Issue 1, Page 109-117, 1999., 1999
In this paper, we give a complete classification of real hypersurfaces in a quaternionic projective space QPm with 𝒟⊥‐recurrent second fundamental tensor under certain condition on the orthogonal distribution 𝒟.
