Observation of Dislocation Bound States and Skin Effects in Non‐Hermitian Chern Insulators

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Experimental observation of the dislocation‐induced bound states and skin effects is demonstrated in a line‐gap non‐Hermitian acoustic lattice. By utilizing active meta‐atoms to measure the full complex spectrum and biorthogonal eigenstates, the study reveals the exceptional‐point‐driven melting of defect modes.

Universal topological algebra needs closed topological categories

open access: yesTopology and its Applications, 1981
AbstractIt is shown that a development of universal topological algebra, based in the obvious way on the category of topological spaces, leads in general to a pathological situation. The pathology disappears when the base category is changed to a cartesian closed topological category or to a topological category endowed with a compatible closed ...

Electron Channeling Contrast Imaging of Ferroelastic Domains

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A simple scanning electron microscopy technique, electron channeling contrast imaging, unveils nanoscale ferroelastic domains and their coupling to functional properties in oxide heterostructures. The work demonstrates high‐resolution mapping of both surface and buried domains, broadening the experimental toolbox for ferroic and quantum oxide systems ...

Topology and Material Optimization in Ultra‐Soft Magneto‐Active Structures: Making Advantage of Residual Anisotropies

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Residual magnetization induces pronounced mechanical anisotropy in ultra‐soft magnetorheological elastomers, shaping deformation and actuation even without external magnetic fields. This study introduces a computational‐experimental framework integrating magneto‐mechanical coupling into topology optimization for designing soft magnetic actuators with ...

Hyperspaces in topological Categories

open access: yes, 2014
Hyperspaces form a powerful tool in some branches of mathematics: lots of fractal and other geometric objects can be viewed as fixed points of some functions in suitable hyperspaces - as well as interesting classes of formal languages in theoretical computer sciences, for example (to illustrate the wide scope of this concept).

Internal Levin-Wen models

open access: yesSciPost Physics
Levin--Wen models are a class of two-dimensional lattice spin models with a Hamiltonian that is a sum of commuting projectors, which describe topological phases of matter related to Drinfeld centres.

Photo‐Reconfigurable Supercoupling Induced Transparency in On‐Chip Topological Edge State Cavities

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A novel supercoupling induced transparency (SIT) is demonstrated in a valley‐Hall photonic crystal. The valley vortices enable the supercoupling between a leaky and a guided topological edge state cavity even across a distance of 4.3 wavelengths, inducing a transparency window with negligible reflection.

2D MOF with Intrinsic Porosity for Colorimetric Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An uncommon 2D MOF with intrinsic in‐plane porosity that can be mechanically exfoliated undergoes a distinct and reversible colour change upon exposure to various volatile organic compounds. ABSTRACT In this work, we report an uncommon 2D metal–organic framework (MOF) with intrinsic in‐plane porosity that undergoes a distinct and reversible colour ...

Topological *-autonomous categories, revisited

open access: yes, 2016
This is a complete rewrite, with some addtional results, of an earlier paper, Topological *-autonomous categories, TAC, 16 (2006), 700-708, that corrects badly flawed proofs and serious ...

Emergent Freestanding Complex Oxide Membranes for Multifunctional Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review surveys freestanding oxide membranes and covers fabrication and three pathways for studies and devices: strain‐free and strained membranes, and van der Waals‐integrated heterostructures. We show how coupled oxide responses map onto these routes and cross‐couple to expand behaviors.
