Topological defects in a deformed gauge theory
In this paper, we will analyse the topological defects in a deformation of a non-abelian gauge theory using the Polyakov variables. The gauge theory will be deformed by the existence of a minimum measurable length scale in the background spacetime.

Topological defects in Floquet circuits
We introduce a Floquet circuit describing the driven Ising chain with topological defects. The corresponding gates include a defect that flips spins as well as the duality defect that explicitly implements the Kramers-Wannier duality transformation.

Complementary projection defects and decomposition
As put forward in [1] topological quantum field theories can be projected using so-called projection defects. The projected theory and its correlation functions can be completely realized within the unprojected one.

Topological Defect Evolutions Guided by Varying the Initial Azimuthal Orientation
Topological defects are a key concern in numerous branches of physics. It is meaningful to exploit the topological defect evolutions during the phase transitions of condensed matter.

Binding self-propelled topological defects in active turbulence
We report on the emergence of stable self-propelled bound defects in monolayers of active nematics, which form virtual full-integer topological defects in the form of vortices and asters.

Clifford Algebras and Liquid Crystalline Fermions
We show that Clifford algebras provide a natural language to describe the physics of liquid crystal defects in 3D. This framework shows that most of these defects have fermionic nature, as the director field profile on a 2D cross section can ...

Probing topological protection using a designer surface plasmon structure
The limits of topological protection in photonic systems remain unclear. Here, Gao et al. construct photonic topological edge states and probe their robustness against a variety of defect classes, including some common time-reversal-invariant photonic ...
