The Hitchin Functionals and the Topological B-Model at One Loop [PDF]
The quantization in quadratic order of the Hitchin functional, which defines by critical points a Calabi-Yau structure on a six-dimensional manifold, is performed. The conjectured relation between the topological B-model and the Hitchin functional is studied at one loop.

Brain networks under attack : robustness properties and the impact of lesions [PDF]
A growing number of studies approach the brain as a complex network, the so-called ‘connectome’. Adopting this framework, we examine what types or extent of damage the brain can withstand—referred to as network ‘robustness’—and conversely, which kind of ...

A signaling visualization toolkit to support rational design of combination therapies and biomarker discovery: SiViT [PDF]
Targeted cancer therapy aims to disrupt aberrant cellular signalling pathways. Biomarkers are surrogates of pathway state, but there is limited success in translating candidate biomarkers to clinical practice due to the intrinsic complexity of pathway ...

Inferring the rules of social interaction in migrating caribou [PDF]
Social interactions are a significant factor that influence the decision-making of species ranging from humans to bacteria. In the context of animal migration, social interactions may lead to improved decision-making, greater ability to respond to ...

Problems and Solutions by Using the Integrated Domain Modeling Toolset
To contribute to the analysis of tools that attempt to acquire a Computation Independent Model (CIM) from the domain system, the author explores the Integrated Domain Modeling toolset and explains how it automatically acquires a formal CIM from ...

Information content of colored motifs in complex networks [PDF]
We study complex networks in which the nodes of the network are tagged with different colors depending on the functionality of the nodes (colored graphs), using information theory applied to the distribution of motifs in such networks.

Network structural dependency in the human connectome across the life-span [PDF]
Principles of network topology have been widely studied in the human connectome. Of particular interest is the modularity of the human brain, where the connectome is divided into subnetworks from which changes with development, aging or disease can be ...

Ecological validation of soil food-web robustness for managed grasslands
The actual relationship between biodiversity and ecosystem functioning is a challenging and intriguing issue which always fascinated many ecologists. In this study the detrital soil food webs of three temperate sandy ecosystems have been compared in the ...
