Zeros of Green functions in topological insulators
This study demonstrates that the zeros of the diagonal components of Green functions are key quantities that can detect noninteracting topological insulators. We show that zeros of the Green functions traverse the band gap in the topological phases.

Photonic topological insulators [PDF]
Recent progress in understanding the topological properties of condensed matter has led to the discovery of time-reversal-invariant topological insulators. A remarkable and useful property of these materials is that they support unidirectional spin-polarized propagation at their surfaces.

Topological-insulator nanocylinders
Nanostructures, such a quantum dots or nanoparticles, made of three-dimensional topological insulators (3DTIs) have been recently attracting increasing interest, especially for their optical properties. In this paper we calculate the energy spectrum, the surface states and the dipole matrix elements for optical transitions with in ...

Granular topological insulators [PDF]
Granular conductors form an artificially engineered class of solid state materials wherein the microstructure can be tuned to mimic a wide range of otherwise inaccessible physical systems. At the same time, topological insulators (TIs) have become a cornerstone of modern condensed matter physics as materials hosting metallic states on the surface and ...

Magnetized topological insulator multilayers [PDF]
Significance Topological insulators have Dirac cone surface states protected by time-reversal symmetry (TRS). Weak magnetic order in topological insulator thin films can lead to the quantum anomalous Hall effect (QAHE), which was first realized by magnetic doping of topological insulators to establish a fragile ferromagnetic ...

Topological Kondo Insulators [PDF]
Kondo insulators are particularly simple type of heavy electron material, where a filled band of heavy quasiparticles gives rise to a narrow band insulator. Starting with the Anderson lattice Hamiltonian, we develop a topological classification of emergent band structures for Kondo insulators and show that these materials may host three-dimensional ...

Demonstration of a quantized acoustic octupole topological insulator
Although multipole topological insulators have been theoretically described and experimentally observed in 2D, third-order topological insulators in 3D have not been observed yet.
