Evolutionary Codesign and Fabrication of Tensegrity Joints with Integrated Pneumatic Artificial Muscles

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This study presents a tensegrity joint with pneumatic artificial muscles integrated directly into its tensile network. Inspired by tensegrity spine structures, the joint's topology is developed and further optimized through an evolutionary algorithm, taking into account fabrication constraints and target applications.

Halogen‐Driven Ion Transport Homogenization in 3D Hierarchical MOF for Ultrastable Solid‐State Lithium Metal Batteries

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
The hierarchical pore channels of MIL‐100 confine LiI to form a conductive ionic network, while its triple‐level cross‐linked multi‐stage porous restricts TFSI⁻ anion mobility, enabling rapid Li⁺ transport and uniform deposition by optimizing ion flux and suppressing space charge effects.

Harnessing Nonidealities in Analog In‐Memory Computing Circuits: A Physical Modeling Approach for Neuromorphic Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This work harnesses nonidealities in analog in‐memory computing (IMC) by training physical neural networks modeled with ordinary differential equations. A differentiable spike‐time discretization accelerates training by 20× and reduces memory usage by 100×, enabling large IMC‐equivalent models to learn the CIFAR‐10 dataset.

Is Computing with Light All You Need? A Perspective on Codesign for Optical Artificial Intelligence and Scientific Computing

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This perspective article considers what computations optical computing can and should enable. Focusing upon free‐space optical computing, it argues that a codesign approach whereby materials, devices, architectures, and algorithms are simultaneously optimized is needed.
