Tutorial: Topology, Waves, and the Refractive Index

open access: yesInternational Journal of Theoretical Physics, 2023
AbstractThis tutorial is divided into two parts: the first examines the application of topology to problems in wave physics. The origins of the Chern number are reviewed, where it is shown that this counts the number of critical points of a complex tangent vector field on the surface.

On the topology and index of minimal surfaces II

open access: yesJournal of Differential Geometry, 2023
For an immersed minimal surface in $\mathbb{R}^3$, we show that there exists a lower bound on its Morse index that depends on the genus and number of ends, counting multiplicity. This improves, in several ways, an estimate we previously obtained bounding the genus and number of ends by the index. Our new estimate resolves several conjectures made by J.

Influence mechanism of MMC-HVDC grid topology on fault current

open access: yes电力工程技术, 2022
The line fault of the modular multilevel converter based high voltage direct current (MMC-HVDC) grid seriously threatens the safe and stable operation of the power system, and the MMC-HVDC grid topology has a significant impact on the fault current.

Identification of a class of index models: A topological approach [PDF]

open access: yesThe Econometrics Journal, 2020
Summary We establish nonparametric identification in a class of so-called index models by using a novel approach that relies on general topological results. Our proof strategy requires substantially weaker conditions on the functions and distributions characterising the model than those required by existing strategies; in particular, it ...

Reliability-Based Topology Optimization: An Extension of the SESO and SERA Methods for Three-Dimensional Structures

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
This study takes an approach to reliability-based topology optimization (RBTO) for 3D structures by applying an expansion of smoothing evolutionary structural optimization (SESO) and sequential element rejection and admission (SERA) for three-dimensional

A Distributed Energy-Balanced Topology Control Algorithm Based on a Noncooperative Game for Wireless Sensor Networks

open access: yesSensors, 2018
In wireless sensor networks, nodes may adopt selfish behavior to save their energy resources, which causes energy imbalance among nodes, because of lacking a central controller with the function of making nodes cooperate.
