Relative topology of real algebraic varieties in their complexifications [PDF]

open access: bronzePacific Journal of Mathematics, 2004
An algebraic model of a closed smooth manifold \(M\) is a nonsingular real algebraic variety \(X\) diffeomorphic to \(M\) (such a model always exists). In this paper, the existence of such models \(X\) having good complexifications is considered. The main result states that \(M\) is formal (in the sense of Sullivan) if it admits an algebraic model \(X\)

The topology of two-dimensional real algebraic varieties [PDF]

open access: yesRussian Mathematical Surveys, 2000
The survey gives an overview of the achievements in topology of real algebraic varieties in the direction initiated in the early 70th by V.I.Arnold and V.A.Rokhlin. We make an attempt to systematize the principal results in the subject. After an exposition of general tools and results, special attention is paid to surfaces and curves on surfaces.

Semialgebraic topology over a real closed field I: Paths and components in the set of rational points of an algebraic variety [PDF]

open access: closedMathematische Zeitschrift, 1981
We fix once and for all a real closed base field R. By a variety X over R we mean a separated algebraic scheme X over R. For all problems attacked here we could equally well assume that X is also reduced, since we are only interested in the set X(R) of rational points of X.

A notion of seminormalization for real algebraic varieties [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the London Mathematical Society, 2022
The seminormalization of an algebraic variety X$X$ is the biggest variety linked to X$X$ by a finite, birational, and bijective morphism. In this paper, we introduce a variant of the seminormalization, suited for real algebraic varieties, called the R ...

Algebraic characterizations of homeomorphisms between algebraic varieties [PDF]

open access: yesMathematische Zeitschrift, 2022
We address the question of finding algebraic properties that are respectively equivalent, for a morphism between algebraic varieties over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero, to be a homeomorphism for the Zariski topology and for a ...

Patchworking real algebraic hypersurfaces with asymptotically large Betti numbers [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Topology, 2020
In this article, we describe a recursive method for constructing a family of real projective algebraic hypersurfaces in ambient dimension n$n$ from families of such hypersurfaces in ambient dimensions k=1,…,n−1$k=1,\ldots ,n-1$ .

Real algebraic morphisms and Del Pezzo surfaces of degree 2 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Let X and Y be affine nonsingular real algebraic varieties. A general problem in Real Algebraic Geometry is to try to decide when a smooth map f : X -> Y can be approximated by regular maps in the space of smooth mappings from X to Y, equipped with the ...
