Požarevačkim mirom 1718. godine grad Imotski i sjeverozapadni dio Imotskog polja ulaze u sastav Mletačke Republike, a jugoistočni dio polja ostaje dijelom Bosanskog ejaleta i na taj je način umjetnom uspostavom granice područje Imotske krajine podijeljeno na mletačko (46 km²) s jedne i tursko (49 km²) s druge strane polja.
