Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract The nested subset pattern (nestedness) has been widely used to explain species distributions in island and fragmented systems. Mountain sky islands serve as critical natural laboratories for understanding the evolutionary consequences of geographic isolation and climate

New biosensors and transgenic mice for multiplex cGMP imaging
Background and Purpose Cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) is a versatile second messenger that is important for human (patho‐)physiology and pharmacotherapy. Live‐cell imaging of cGMP with biosensors allows to elucidate its spatiotemporal dynamics in real time under close‐to‐native conditions. However, to monitor two separate cGMP pools or cGMP/cAMP

Human FASTK preferentially binds single‐stranded and G‐rich RNA
Although FASTK is known to play a role in mRNA biology, the mechanism through which it recognizes RNA has yet to be unraveled. Here, we used purified human FASTK to characterize its RNA‐binding properties in vitro. We found that FASTK prefers ssRNA oligonucleotides containing guanines with the potential to form G‐quadruplexes and binds robustly to any ...

The crystal structures of Arabidopsis thaliana γ‐glutamyl peptidase 1 (GGP1), including the covalent intermediate state, were determined. GGP1 is involved in both glutathione degradation in the primary metabolism and glutathione conjugate processing in the secondary metabolism of glucosinolate and camalexin biosynthesis.

Unifying cubical and multimodal type theory [PDF]
In this paper we combine the principled approach to modalities from multimodal type theory (MTT) with the computationally well-behaved realization of identity types from cubical type theory (CTT).

Contextuality and Indistinguishability
It is well known that in quantum mechanics we cannot always define consistently properties that are context independent. Many approaches exist to describe contextual properties, such as Contextuality by Default (CbD), sheaf theory, topos theory, and non ...
