Toric Spines at a Site of Learning. [PDF]
We discovered a new type of dendritic spine. It is found on space-specific neurons in the barn owl inferior colliculus, a site of experience-dependent plasticity.

An isomorphism between projective models of toric and hyperplane graphic arrangements
This paper presents a bridge between the theories of wonderful models associated with toric arrangements and wonderful models associated with hyperplane arrangements. In a previous work, the same authors noticed that the model of the toric arrangement of type A_{n−1} associated with the minimal building set is isomorphic to the one of the hyperplane ...

Symmetry of f-Vectors of Toric Arrangements in General Position and Some Applications
A toric hyperplane is the preimage of a point in a circle of a continuous surjective group homomorphism from the n-torus to the circle. A toric hyperplane arrangement is a finite collection of such hyperplanes. In this paper, we study the combinatorial properties of toric hyperplane arrangements on n-tori which are spanning and in general position ...

On the geometry of toric arrangements [PDF]
We introduce toric arrangements, essentially finite families of codimension 1 subtori of a torus or of their cosets, as a periodic generalization of hyperplane arrangements, compute cohomology of the complement of such an arrangement and apply the theory to give a geometric interpretation of the formulas of Brion--Szenes--Vergne counting the number of ...

Minimality of toric arrangements [PDF]
We prove that the complement of a toric arrangement has the homotopy type of a minimal CW-complex. As a corollary we deduce that the integer cohomology of these spaces is torsionfree. We apply discrete Morse theory to the toric Salvetti complex, providing a sequence of cellular collapses that leads to a minimal complex.

The homotopy type of the polyhedral product for shifted complexes [PDF]
We prove a conjecture of Bahri, Bendersky, Cohen and Gitler: if K is a shifted simplicial complex on n vertices,X1,...,Xn are pointed connected CW-complexes and CXi is the cone on Xi, then the polyhedral product determined by K and the pairs (C Xi , Xi )

A Salvetti Complex for Toric Arrangements and its Fundamental Group [PDF]
We describe a combinatorial model for the complement of a complexified toric arrangement by using nerves of acyclic categories. This generalizes recent work of Moci and Settepanella on thick toric arrangements. Moreover, we compute its fundamental group by finding a (finite) presentation.

Arithmetic matroids, the Tutte polynomial and toric arrangements [PDF]
AbstractWe introduce the notion of an arithmetic matroid whose main example is a list of elements of a finitely generated abelian group. In particular, we study the representability of its dual, providing an extension of the Gale duality to this setting. Guided by the geometry of generalized toric arrangements, we provide a combinatorial interpretation

The Red–Green Electoral Threat to the Labour Party
Abstract For the first time, Labour faces credible electoral threats from minor parties to its left. The Greens and the newly formed Your Party offer left‐wing and Muslim voters disillusioned with Labour viable electoral alternatives and parliamentary representation. This article considers how great the threat is to Labour. It uses a model of how minor
