A differential algebra and the homotopy type of the complement of a toric arrangement [PDF]

open access: yesRendiconti Lincei, Matematica e Applicazioni, 2021
We show that the rational homotopy type of the complement of a toric arrangement is completely determined by two sets of discrete data. This is obtained by introducing a differential graded algebra over Q whose minimal model is equivalent to the Sullivan minimal model of \mathcal A

The Multilevel Implications of a Sinn Féin Government in Ireland

open access: yesThe Political Quarterly, Volume 96, Issue 1, Page 173-179, January/March 2025.
Abstract The electoral growth of Sinn Féin on both sides of the Irish border has generated much political and academic attention in recent years. The party could form part of the government in Dublin for the first time at the next Irish general election, though that outcome is far from certain.

The Red–Green Electoral Threat to the Labour Party

open access: yesThe Political Quarterly, EarlyView.
Abstract For the first time, Labour faces credible electoral threats from minor parties to its left. The Greens and the newly formed Your Party offer left‐wing and Muslim voters disillusioned with Labour viable electoral alternatives and parliamentary representation. This article considers how great the threat is to Labour. It uses a model of how minor

Geometric structures on the complement of a toric mirror arrangement [PDF]

open access: yesMathematische Zeitschrift, 2021
We study geometric structures on the complement of a toric mirror arrangement associated with a root system. Inspired by those special hypergeometric functions found by Heckman-Opdam, as well as the work of Couwenberg-Heckman-Looijenga on geometric structures on projective arrangement complements, we consider a family of connections on a total space ...

Queen Anne's Wardrobe: Fashion, Sartorial Politics, and the Representational Strategies of the Last Stuart Queen

open access: yesJournal for Eighteenth-Century Studies, EarlyView.
Abstract The final Stuart monarch, Queen Anne, has often been overlooked in studies of visual and material culture, particularly of fashion and dress. This article is the first to undertake a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the wardrobe accounts of Queen Anne, situating her consumption within the context of the eighteenth‐century fashion ...

Toric Arrangements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This thesis addresses some fundamental questions on the topology of toric arrangement complements. We prove two main result which generalize well known results about hyperplane arrangements. Namely, we define a Salvetti complex for toric arrangements and

Changes in choroidal and retinal thickness 6 months before and during 18 months of orthokeratology lens treatment in myopic children

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To investigate changes in choroidal and retinal thickness before and during myopia control treatment with orthokeratology lenses (OKL) in myopic children. Methods This was a sub‐study of CONTROL and CONTROL2 studies. The present study was a 2‐year, prospective, single‐group interventional study consisting of a 6‐month pre‐treatment ...

Combinatorial Invariants of Toric Arrangements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
An arrangement is a collection of subspaces of a topological space. For example, a set of codimension one affine subspaces in a finite dimensional vector space is an arrangement of hyperplanes.

A Hundred Thousand Darlingtons: Self‐Respect, Moral Judgement, and the Right to an Equal Democratic Say

open access: yesAnalytic Philosophy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT I defend the non‐instrumentalist thesis that every adult member of a political society has a pro tanto fundamental moral right to an equal democratic say in determining the content of the laws to which she is subject. I begin by giving an account of an important kind of servility that has received only glancing notice in philosophical ...
