Deployable medical devices typically need external stimuli to trigger deployment. However, external stimuli are difficult to supply within tissues. Here, we describe a strategy to deploy small‐scale structures into soft tissues after insertion without the need for any stimulus. We demonstrate deployment within a tissue phantom.

Incorporating Spectral Unmixing to Estimate Carbon Sequestration Changes in an Urban Forest Canopy
The urban forest canopy provides critical ecosystem services, including carbon storage and sequestration. Healthy, well-managed trees in an urban setting can provide these services in a way comparable to forests managed for production or as nature ...

A buoyant tornado-probe concept incorporating an inverted lifting device [PDF]
Addition of an inverted lifting device to a simple balloon probe is shown to make possible low-altitude entry to tornado cores with easier launch conditions than for the simple balloon probe.

A versatile approach is presented for fabricating smart multifunctional textiles by integrating thermo‐fluorescent carbon dot/polymer nanocomposite coatings with 3D‐printed interlocked architectures. The fabrics exhibit temperature‐responsive fluorescence, durable hydrophobicity, strong antibacterial and antioxidant activity, and enhanced UV protection.

Characteristics of anvil-top associated with the Poplar Bluff tornado of 7 May 1973 [PDF]
Investigation of potential tornado-producing thunderstorms was performed during part of the 1972 and 1973 tornado seasons. On May 7, 1973 twenty-one tornadoes were confirmed over southern Missouri, northern Arkansas, and southwestern Illinois. The region

Resolving the Structural Duality of Graphene Grain Boundaries
Cantilever ncAFM resolves the atomic structure of grain boundaries in graphene, revealing coexisting stable and metastable types. Both contain pentagon/heptagon defects, but metastable GBs show irregular geometries. Modeling shows metastable GBs form under compression, exhibiting vertical corrugation, while stable GBs are flat.
