Effects of collisional ion orbit loss on tokamak radial electric field and toroidal rotation in an L-mode plasma

open access: yesNuclear Fusion, 2023
Ion orbit loss has been used to model the formation of a strong negative radial electric field E _r in the tokamak edge, as well as edge momentum transport and toroidal rotation.

Toroidal modeling of penetration of the resonant magnetic perturbation field [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A toroidal, quasi-linear model is proposed to study the penetration dynamics of the resonant magnetic perturbation (RMP) field into the plasma. The model couples the linear, fluid plasma response to a toroidal momentum balance equation, which includes ...

Ray Tracing of MHD Rossby Waves in the Solar Tachocline: Meridional Propagation and Implications for the Solar Magnetic Activity

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2022
Rossby waves have been recently recognised for their role in the large-scale spatio-temporal organisation of the solar magnetic activity. Here, we study the propagation of magnetohydrodynamic Rossby waves in a thin layer, representing the solar ...

Comparison of toroidal viscosity with neoclassical theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Toroidal rotation profiles are measured with charge exchange spectroscopy for a plasma heated with tangential neutral beam injection (NBI) in the Compact Helical System (CHS) heliotron/torsatron device [Ida et al., Phys. Rev. Lett.

Ballooning Modes in a Toroidally Rotating Plasma [PDF]

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Physics, 1997
The stability of ideal ballooning modes in the presence of a rigid toroidal rotation is revisited. Two stabilising contributions arising due to rigid toroidal rotation are identified. These stabilising contributions can be particularly significant for present and future generations of low and ultra-low aspect ratio tokamaks.

Study of correlations between LOC/SOC transition, intrinsic toroidal rotation reversal and TEM/ITG bifurcation with different working gases in TCV

open access: yesNuclear Fusion, 2023
The effects of different working gases on the transition from linear ohmic confinement (LOC) regime to saturated ohmic confinement (SOC) regime and its relation to the intrinsic toroidal rotation reversal phenomenon were explored in the TCV tokamak.

A Wall Effects and Means of Controlling the Evolution of Swirling Flows with Vortex Breakdown [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics, 2023
This paper investigates numerically the bubble-type vortex breakdown apparition in the case of closed rotating flows of a viscous, axisymmetric, and incompressible fluid.

The Most Magnetic Stars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Observations of magnetic A, B and O stars show that the poloidal magnetic flux per unit mass has an upper bound of 10^-6.5 G cm^2/g. A similar upper bound is found for magnetic white dwarfs even though the highest magnetic field strengths at their ...

Research on equaling design and machining method of roughing allowances of a dual-cone enveloping toroidal worm

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2022
Since the helical surface of the toroidal worm is a complex space surface with variable-lead, the design method and high-efficiency machining method for the consistency rough machining allowance of the toroidal worm are not perfect, which is not ...
