Zoomable telescope by rotation of toroidal lenses [PDF]
A novel type of a continuously zoomable telescope is based on two pairs of adjacent toroidal lenses ("saddle lenses") in combination with standard optical components. Its variable magnification is adjusted by a mere rotation of the four saddle lenses around the optical axis.

Candidate Rotating Toroids around High‐Mass (Proto)Stars [PDF]
Using the OVRO, Nobeyama, and IRAM mm-arrays, we searched for ``disk''-outflow systems in three high-mass (proto)star forming regions: G16.59-0.05, G23.01-0.41, and G28.87+0.07. These were selected from a sample of NH3 cores associated with OH and H2O maser emission and with no or very faint continuum emission.

Toroidal Vortices of Energy in Tightly Focused Second-Order Cylindrical Vector Beams
In this paper, we simulate the focusing of a cylindrical vector beam (CVB) of second order, using the Richards–Wolf formula. Many papers have been published on focusing CVB, but they did not report on forming of the toroidal vortices of energy (TVE) near

Magnetorotational Explosions of Core-Collapse Supernovae
Core-collapse supernovae are accompanied by formation of neutron stars. The gravitation energy is transformed into the energy of the explosion, observed as SN II, SN Ib,c type supernovae.

Solar Magnetic Field Signatures in Helioseismic Splitting Coefficients [PDF]
Normal modes of oscillation of the Sun are useful probes of the solar interior. In this work, we use the even-order splitting coefficients to study the evolution of magnetic fields in the convection zone over solar cycle 23, assuming that the frequency ...

Magnetized stars with differential rotation and a differential toroidal field
We have succeeded in obtaining magnetized equilibrium states with differential rotation and differential toroidal magnetic fields. If an internal toroidal field of a proto-neutron star is wound up from the initial poloidal magnetic field by differential ...

Stability of toroidal magnetic fields in stellar interiors
We present 3D MHD simulations of purely toroidal and mixed poloidal-toroidal magnetic field configurations to study the behavior of the Tayler instability.

Effect of negative triangularity on tearing mode stability in tokamak plasmas
The influence of negative triangularity (NT) of the plasma shape on the n = 1 (n is the toroidal mode number) tearing mode (TM) stability has been numerically investigated, with results compared to that of the positive triangularity (PT) counterpart.

Ohmic energy confinement saturation and core toroidal rotation reversal in Alcator C-Mod plasmas [PDF]
Ohmic energy confinement saturation is found to be closely related to core toroidal rotation reversals in Alcator C-Mod tokamak plasmas. Rotation reversals occur at a critical density, depending on the plasma current and toroidal magnetic field, which ...

Rotating bubble and toroidal nuclei and fragmentation [PDF]
The energy of rotating bubble and toroidal nuclei predicted to be formed in central heavy-ion collisions at intermediate energies is calculated within the generalized rotating liquid drop model. The potential barriers standing in these exotic deformation paths are compared with the three-dimensional and plane-fragmentation barriers.
