Mitochondrial DNA Part A, 2014
The complete mitochondrial genome of the giant electric ray is 17,081 bp long (GenBank accession KM386678) and includes 2 ribosomal RNA, 22 transfer RNA, 13 protein-coding genes, an origin of replication, 2 non-coding regions. The mitochondrial gene arrangement is similar to that found in other batoids.

Cytogenetic data in cartilaginous fishes are currently very inconsistent, considering that the karyotype morphology of only about seventy living species is actually known. Only in the last few years different molecular approaches, first of all physical mapping on metaphase chromosomes, have been used to investigate the cytotaxonomic relationship ...

A new species of numbfish, Narcine baliensis, sp. nov., is described from the tropical eastern Indian Ocean from Indonesia. It is superficially similar to N. brevilabiata and N. atzi in aspects of its color pattern, but is distinguished from both congeners in details of its color pattern, in tooth band morphology, and in proportions of its dorsal fins,

A new species of torpedo ray, Tetronarce cowleyi, sp. nov., is described from specimens collected from the southeastern Atlantic Ocean. The new species is placed in the genus Tetronarce based on a uniform dorsal coloration and absence of papillae around the spiracles.

Abstract Benthobatis sp., a deep-sea electric ray of Narcinidae (Torpediniformes), is described from the Middle Miocene Yatsuo Group in Central Honshu, Japan. This is the first fossil record of the genus Benthobatis in the world. The occurrence of Benthobatis demonstrates subtropical paleoenvironments in Central Honshu during the early middle ...

ABSTRACTThe Comparative anatomy of the 11 recognized genera within Torpediniformes is described, systematically categorized, and illustrated in a comprehensive photo‐atlas. Data are compiled into a character matrix and cladistically analyzed using parsimony to test hypotheses about the previously recognized subfamilies, while reconstructing the ...

A new species of torpedo ray, Torpedo formosa, sp. nov., is described from specimens collected from northeastern Taiwan. The new species is placed in the subgenus Tetronarce based on a uniform purplish dorsal coloration and the absence of papillae around the spiracles. It is distinct from the sympatric T.

Comparative genomics in Torpediniformes (Chondricthyes, Batoidea)
2011Due of their basal position in the vertebrate phylogenetic tree, the study on Elasmobranch genetics and cytogenetics can provide interesting information on the evolution of all vertebrates. In recent years, different molecular approaches, among them the physical mapping of specific nucleotide sequences on chromosomes and the use of these genomic ...
