Only One Percent of Important Shark and Ray Areas in the Western Indian Ocean Are Fully Protected From Fishing Pressure. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
Delineation of Important Shark and Ray Areas (ISRAs) In the Western Indian Ocean was enhanced by the verification and incorporation of unpublished records. Even with this expanded dataset, ~99% of ISRA coverage fell outside of fully protected, no‐take MPAs.

Comparing the performance of 12S mitochondrial primers for fish environmental DNA across ecosystems

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 3, Issue 6, Page 1113-1127, November 2021., 2021
We propose a framework for comparing the performance of primer pairs, which we applied to the comparison of two fish eDNA primer pairs, teleo and MiFish‐U. We showed how those primer pairs could be best used together to increase diversity coverage of eDNA studies.

Molecular characterization of marine and coastal fishes of Bangladesh through DNA barcodes

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 11, Issue 9, Page 3696-3709, May 2021., 2021
This study attempted to molecular characterization of marine and coastal fishes of Bangladesh based on COI gene as a marker. A total of 376 mitochondrial COI barcode sequences were obtained from 185 species belonging to 146 genera, 74 families, 20 orders, and two classes of fishes.

Rostral and body shape analyses reveal cryptic diversity of Late Jurassic batomorphs (Chondrichthyes, Elasmobranchii) from Europe. [PDF]

open access: yesPap Palaeontol
Abstract The fossil record of chondrichthyans (chimaeras, sharks, rays and skates) consists largely of isolated teeth, with holomorphic specimens being extraordinary exceptions. However, numerous of these more or less completely preserved specimens are known from several Upper Jurassic deposits of Europe, enabling detailed analysis of their morphology.
