Trapping of giant-planet cores - I. Vortex aided trapping at the outer dead zone edge [PDF]
In this paper the migration of a 10 Earth-mass planetary core is investigated at the outer boundary of the dead zone of a protoplanetary disc by means of 2D hydrodynamic simulations done with the graphics processor unit version of the FARGO code.

Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.

Horseshoe drag in three-dimensional globally isothermal disks [PDF]
We study the horseshoe dynamics of a low-mass planet in a three-dimensional, globally isothermal, inviscid disk. We find, as reported in previous work, that the boundaries of the horseshoe region (separatrix sheets) have cylindrical symmetry about the ...

Tuning the torque-speed characteristics of bacterial flagellar motor to enhance the swimming speed
In a classic paper, Edward Purcell analysed the dynamics of flagellated bacterial swimmers and derived a geometrical relationship which optimizes the propulsion efficiency. Experimental measurements for wild-type bacterial species E.

BINARIES TRAVELING THROUGH A GASEOUS MEDIUM: DYNAMICAL DRAG FORCES AND INTERNAL TORQUES [PDF]
Using time-dependent linear theory, we investigate the morphology of the gravitational wake induced by a binary, whose center of mass moves at velocity Vcm against a uniform background of gas. For simplicity, we assume that the binary's components are on circular orbits about their common center of mass.
