Converter Caused Torque Oscillations

2013
Current sheets of the same space harmonics, which impose flux-density components of different phase velocities in the air-gap, cause oscillations in the electrical torque. These may damage the shaft or coupling. The difference in phase velocity causes a time dependent phase shift in flux density components.

Review of the Automotive Torque Converter

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1979
<div class="htmlview paragraph">With the big gains in automobile fuel economy already accomplished, primarily with off-shelf technology, further improvements above that expected by further downsizing will now require advanced technology. One area in which advancing the state of the art may not only benefit fuel economy but preserve drive-ability ...

Design of Hydraulic Torque Converter

2020
The hydraulic torque converter is located at the most significant end of the AT and is mounted on the engine flywheel, acting like a clutch with MT. It is a vane transmission with the liquid as the medium. When the hydraulic torque converter is working, the interaction between the active wheel blade and working liquid is used to realize the ...

Centrifugal Torque Converter Clutch

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1984
<div class="htmlview paragraph">A centrifugal torque converter clutch was developed to improve the mechanical efficiency and yet retain a smooth feel in the driveline by allowing some slip to occur at loads above normal road load.</div> <div class="htmlview paragraph">Some design problems are discussed and the torque capacity ...

The hydrodynamic modelling of torque converters

1992
One method of predicting the performance characteristics of torque converters is by means of a hydrodynamic model in which the geometry of the torque converter and the properties of the fluid are given, and the angular momentum flux over the members is calculated at specific operating points. A number of such models has been developed in the literature,

Torque Converters and Hydraulic Couplings

1971
The term torque converter is a misnomer, since any mechanism which changes the speed/torque characteristic of a given power is a ‘torque converter’. By general use, however, the term has become adopted for that particular form which completes the conversion hydrokinetically.
