Computational design of poly(p‐phenylene vinylene)‐based gas sensors: tunable reactivity and selectivity via side‐group functionalization

open access: yesPolymer International, EarlyView.
Side‐group functionalization enhances the reactivity and optoelectronic properties of poly(p‐phenylene vinylene) (PPV) derivatives for chemical sensing. PPV‐CN and PPV‐NO2 display strong interactions and pronounced responses, providing molecular‐level insights for designing high‐performance polymer‐based sensors.

Application of Non‐Isothermal Network Theory With Curved‐Channel Element Characteristics to Predict Melt Conveying in High‐Performance Single‐Screw Extruders

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science, EarlyView.
This study presents a fast and accurate calculation tool to predict conveying of polymer melts in single‐screw extruders. Integrating generalized sub‐models into network theory allows to represent the complex screw shapes and material behavior more realistically. Tests on an industrial extruder show close agreement with experiments, outperforming older

Conjugated Polymers Engineered for Flexible/Stretchable Electronics

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science, EarlyView.
This review highlights glass transition temperature (Tg) as the central parameter linking molecular structure to device performance in conjugated polymers. By tuning backbone rigidity, side‐chain architecture, and dynamic bonding, Tg governs the balance between π–π stacking–enabled charge transport and mechanical compliance.

Direct Measurement of Explosive Impulse From Contact to the Ultra‐Near Field

open access: yesPropellants, Explosives, Pyrotechnics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Measurement of impulse from explosive charges in contact and ultra‐near‐field regimes remains poorly characterised due to the short duration of loading, high strain rates, and the difficulty of obtaining direct momentum‐based measurements.

Electrically responsive knitted liquid crystal elastomer actuators for underwater applications

open access: yesResponsive Materials, EarlyView.
A knitted liquid crystal elastomer‐liquid metal (LM) actuator enables electrically driven soft robotics in water. Core–shell fibers are melt‐spun, knitted, and infused with LM to combine internal conductivity, external insulation, and programmable textile deformation.
