Terminology of torsades de pointes
Cardiovascular Drugs and Therapy, 1991Marked prolongation of the QT interval may be associated with life-threatening ventricular tachycardia. The ventricular tachycardia has a polymorphous appearance and is usually induced by antiarrhythmic drugs. This peculiar type of ventricular tachycardia was termed by Desserstenne torsades de pointes because of its twisting ORS axis.

Torsades de Pointes in a Child
Pediatric Cardiology, 2009Torsades de pointes refers to polymorphic ventricular tachycardia secondary to a prolonged QTc interval on electrocardiogram [1]. Prolonged QTc interval can be a hereditary disorder, e.g., Jervell, Lange-Nielson, and Romano-Ward syndromes. Other causes include electrolyte imbalance, antiarrhythmic medications, and cardiomyopathy.

Torsades de Pointes (T.D.P.) is a ventricular dysrhythmia that is a commonly undiagnosed condition seen within Critical Care areas of most Major Metropolitan Hospitals. It is a condition that requires prompt diagnosis and treatment. Experience has shown a lack of understanding of the clinical features and the treatment of this particular life ...

Current Treatment Options in Cardiovascular Medicine, 1999
The treatment of torsades de pointes is very effective but also very specific. Prompt recognition of torsades de pointes is imperative, and the clue to its recognition is increased awareness. The QT interval in the long QT syndrome (LQTS) is not only prolonged but also odd looking.

Torsades de pointes and hypothyroidism
European Journal of Internal Medicine, 2003An 81-year-old woman with a previous history of hyperthyroidism treated with 10 mg/day thiamazole presented with episodes of syncope. On admission, her ECG showed ectopic ventricular beats and a prolonged QT interval (QTc 520 ms). Torsades de pointes was recorded while she was having another syncope attack.

Nifedipine and Torsades de Pointes
Annals of Internal Medicine, 1983Excerpt To the editor: In considering the recent comments from Krikler and Roland (1), we are certain that the ventricular arrhythmia seen (2) was torsades de pointes.

Quoique rapides, elles peuvent eventuellement
