Diagnosis of testicular torsion with preserved blood flow detected by color Doppler ultrasonography

open access: yesBulletin of the National Research Centre, 2023
Background To diagnose testicular torsion promptly and accurately when diagnosis of testicular torsion is difficult by color Doppler ultrasonography owing to testicular blood flow, we assess the helpfulness of physical findings to aid diagnosis of ...

Pathological Thresholds of Segmental Femoral Torsion in Patients With Patellar Dislocation: Influence on Patellofemoral Malalignment

open access: yesOrthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine, 2022
Background Femoral torsion can be evaluated from different femoral segments. The pathological thresholds for femoral torsion of different segments and the influence of segmental femoral torsion on patellofemoral alignment remain unknown.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Adnexal torsion: is there a familial tendency?

open access: yesClinical and Experimental Obstetrics & Gynecology, 2020
Objective: To investigate whether patients diagnosed with adnexal torsion report a family history of adnexal torsion in a first degree relative. Materials and Methods: All women with a surgical diagnosis of adnexal torsion operated from 2008 to 2016 were

Interpreting the effects of DNA polymerase variants at the structural level

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using MAVISp and molecular dynamics simulations, we analyzed over 60 000 missense variants in POLE and POLD1 from ClinVar, COSMIC, cBioPortal, and saturation mutagenesis. Identified mechanistic indicators, including stability, binding, and long‐range, enable structural interpretation, providing ACMG‐like evidence for possible reclassification of VUS ...

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.
