Digital Micromirror Device (DMD)-Based High-Cycle Torsional Fatigue Testing Micromachine for 1D Nanomaterials

open access: yesMicromachines, 2016
Fatigue behavior of nanomaterials could ultimately limit their applications in variable nano-devices and flexible nanoelectronics. However, very few existing nanoscale mechanical testing instruments were designed for dedicated fatigue experiments ...

Necrosis of an ectopic testicle in a child

open access: yesЛечащий Врач, 2021
Cryptorchidism is dangerous for possible complications that affect both reproductive health and the state of organs. In patients with bilateral cryptorchidism, infertility as a complication reaches 80%.

Torsion of the Gallbladder [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Gastrointestinal Surgery, 2012
A 77-year-old woman was seen with progressive abdominal pain.A CT scan was made and showed a large gallbladder extending into the right lower abdomen. Ultrasound was performed but demonstrated no gallstones. Laparoscopy showed a tordated, necrotic gallbladder that was attached to the liver only by the cystic artery and cystic duct.

TORSION OF THE TESTIS

open access: yesMedical Journal of Australia, 1966
Abstract A series of 56 proved cases of torsion of the testis is reviewed. The condition is rare, only 2 patients per year being admitted to a large general hospital of 800 beds. The aim of this study was to assess the fate of testes in relation to the duration of symptoms: if less than 12 hours the outlook is good, between 12 and 24 ...

Spontaneous Uterine Leiomyoma Torsion: A Challenging Differential Diagnosis for Radiologists

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Case Reports in Internal Medicine, 2020
Uterine leiomyomas are very common gynaecological benign tumours. Spontaneous torsion of a uterine subserosal leiomyoma is a rare cause of acute lower abdominal pain and should be treated immediately with surgery.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Study on initial fatigue damage of magnesium alloy under torsion and bending

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2015
Torsion and bending fatigue tests of magnesium alloy AZ31were carried out to investigate the initial damage under high cycle fatigue. The crystallographic orientation of crystals in which slip lines were occurred was analyzed by using electron back ...

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Case Report: Adolescent epididymal cysts: three management approaches including a rare synchronous epididymal cyst and testicular torsion

open access: yesFrontiers in Surgery
IntroductionEpididymal cysts are common benign lesions that typically present as painless scrotal masses. They predominantly occur in adult males but can also be found in adolescents, albeit with a higher likelihood of being overlooked at this age.
