Torsional behaviour of carbon nanotubes with abnormal interlayer distances

open access: closedJournal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 2009
Atomistic simulations are performed to investigate the torsional behaviour of abnormal double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWCNTs) with an interlayer distance of less than 0.34 nm and carbon nanowires (CNWs) made of linear carbon-atom chain (C-chain) encapsulated inside single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) subject to torsional motion.

An Abnormal Vibrational Mode of Torsion Pendulum

open access: closedChinese Physics Letters, 2003
In the experiment for the determination of the gravitational constant G, we found an abnormal vibrational mode of the torsion pendulum. The abnormal mode disappeared as a magnetic damper was introduced to the torsion pendulum system. Our experimental results also show that the magnetic damper can be used to suppress the high frequency vibrational ...

Torsional Abnormalities in Children's Lower Extremities

Orthopedic Clinics of North America, 1982
SUMMARY Rotational problems of the lower extremities represent a very common referral group in a pediatric orthopedic practice. With careful physical examination, an accurate diagnosis can actually be made without complex roentgenographic measurements.

Normal and Abnormal Torsional Development in Children

Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1994
This study presents findings in a series of 123 children with intoeing gait. The intoeing was caused by increased femoral anteversion (IFA) in 70% of the cases, and internal tibial torsion (ITT) in 30%. Rotation of the hips, thigh-foot angle, Q-angle, and computed tomography measured anteversion and tibial torsion divided the two groups very clearly ...

Haematosalpinx of Fallopian Tube: Isolated Torsion with Congenital Abnormal Vascularisation

European Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 2004
We report a case of haematosalpinx due to torsion of the Fallopian tube with congenital abnormal blood supply in a girl. The symptoms were not specific and the first diagnosis was a pelvic complex mass like a tumour. The authors discuss the possible aetiology.

A normal ovary in an abnormal location: A case of torsion

Journal of Clinical Ultrasound, 2014
ABSTRACTThe clinical and radiologic diagnosis of adnexal torsion is challenging. The patient's history, physical examination, and laboratory evaluation may overlap significantly with other causes of abdominal pain. Ultrasound is the most common radiologic tool to assess for torsion, and the imaging findings can be equally equivocal.

Abnormalities of torsional fast phase eye movements in unilateral rostral midbrain disease

Neurology, 1996
In a patient with a unilateral rostral midbrain lesion, three-dimensional scleral search coil eye movement recordings demonstrated slowing of ipsidirectional torsional fast phase eye movements without any abnormalities of torsional slow phases. On high-resolution MRI, the brainstem lesion localized to the area of the efferent pathways from the rostral ...
