Turbulence Modeling of Torsional Couette Flows [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Rotating Machinery, 2008
The present study considers the numerical modeling of the turbulent flow inside a rotor-stator cavity subjected or not to a superimposed throughflow.

A statistical study of spots in torsional Couette flow [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Engineering Mathematics, 2006
This article presents some results on the statistical behavior of localized structures - called "spots" - that propagate in the flow between a rotating and a stationary disc when those are very close one to the other. Under these conditions the rotating disc flow belongs to the Couette flow family and is called the torsional Couette flow.

Processing the Vane Shear Flow Data from Couette Analogy

open access: yesApplied Rheology, 2008
A new procedure is described to convert the vane torque and rotational velocity data into shear stress vs shear rate relationships. The basis of the procedure consists in considering locally the sheared material as a Bingham fluid and computing a ...

THE TRANSITION TO TURBULENCE OF THE TORSIONAL COUETTE FLOW [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This work is devoted to the experimental study of the transition to turbulence of a flow confined in a narrow gap between a rotating and a stationary disk. When the fluid layer thickness is of the same order of magnitude as the boundary layer depth, the azimuthal velocity axial gradient is nearly constant and this rotating disk flow is a torsional ...

A comparative study on the effect of disks geometrical features on the drag torque of a wet friction clutch [PDF]

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2020
In recent years, the need for highly efficient automatic and semiautomatic powertrains has led to the wide use of wet friction clutches as power transmission systems.

Improvement of a method for the correction of wall slip effects within the rheological measurements of filled rubber compounds

open access: yesSPE Polymers, Volume 4, Issue 2, Page 63-79, April 2023., 2023
Abstract Rubber compounds have an increased tendency to flow anomalies depending on the compound ingredients and the processing parameters. Due to wall slip effects, rheological material measurements and the material parameters derived from them are affected by errors, since the fundamental analytical and numerical calculation approaches assume wall ...

Tribological Design by Molecular Dynamics Simulation: Influence of the Molecular Structure on Wall Slip and Bulk Shear

open access: yesChemical Engineering &Technology, Volume 46, Issue 1, Page 95-101, January 2023., 2023
The bulk shear and wall slip of a confined nonpolar lubricant, a complex branched‐hydrocarbon oil, were studied using molecular dynamics simulation. Different temperatures and molecular masses were investigated for a Couette flow. As the number of branches of the liquid molecule increases, the shear stresses and the wall slip increase.

Effects of wall compliance on the laminar–turbulent transition of torsional Couette flow [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Mechanics, 2003
Torsional Couette flow between a rotating disk and a stationary wall is studied experimentally. The surface of the disk is either rigid or covered with a compliant coating. The influence of wall compliance on characteristic flow instabilities and on the laminar–turbulent flow transition is investigated.

Nondimensional Characterization of the Operational Envelope of a Wet Friction Clutch

open access: yesComputation, 2020
In recent years, multidisc wet friction clutches are used in demanding powertrains of automatic and dual clutch transmissions targeting high efficiency and smoothness during gearshift.

EHL Analysis of Spiral Bevel Gear Pairs considering the Contact Point Migration due to Deformation under Load

open access: yesMathematical Problems in Engineering, Volume 2020, Issue 1, 2020., 2020
The actual contact point of a spiral bevel gear pair deviates from the theoretical contact point due to the gear deformation caused by the load. However, changes in meshing characteristics due to the migration of contact points are often ignored in previous studies on the elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) analysis of spiral bevel gears.
