Flows of Knowledge: A Method for Impact Assessment

open access: yes
The Flows of Knowledge evaluation method, as introduced by Meagher, Lyall and Nutley (2008) and described in Edwards and Meagher (2020), provides a framework for assessing the impacts of scientific research on policy and practice.

Raman Analysis of RNA Nucleotide Strands From SARS‐CoV‐2 Variants and Subvariants: A Step Forward in the Definition of “Raman Genome”

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Main Raman signals in RNA, related to helical backbone, ribofuranose ring, and nitrogenous bases, are affected by secondary structures that cause hyperchromic effects and significantly alter the Raman intensity. ABSTRACT Raman spectra of RNA nucleotide strands extracted from 20 SARS‐CoV‐2 strains, including the original Japanese isolate, Alpha, Beta ...

Architected Load Paths Enable Stiffening and Motion Programming in Soft Pneumatic Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A single MARS template introduces an architected reinforcement strategy for programmable soft pneumatic actuators through internal structural organization and selective beam removal. This monolithic architecture enables deformation reconfiguration from continuous bending to joint‐like articulation and torsional motion, allowing one compliant platform ...

Measurement and Analysis of Stick-Slip and High-Frequency Torsional Coupled Oscillations of Drill String

open access: yesShiyou jixie
The self-excited torsional oscillation of the drilling system can reduce the contact force between the bit and the formation or the relative velocity of the cutting force. To mitigate the impact of this mechanism, the torsional oscillation of the drill ...

Bio‐Inspired Gradient Heterogeneous Architectures for Ultrasensitive and Robust Strain Sensors via Programmable Crack Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inspired by the insect campaniform sensillum, a heterogeneous bilayer strain sensor is developed based on a unique impedance mismatch and three‐dimensional structural dynamic percolation strategy. The sensor enables real‐time multi‐joint teleoperation of three joints and the gripper using a six‐degree‐of‐freedom robotic‐arm platform.
