Study of short cracks under biaxial fatigue [PDF]
In this paper a methodology for evaluating crack initiation under biaxial conditions is presented. The methodology consists of evaluating the crack length automatically with digital processing of highmagnification images of the crack.

NEUTRINO OSCILLATION IN A SPACE–TIME WITH TORSION [PDF]
Using Einstein–Cartan–Dirac theory, we study the effect of torsion on neutrino oscillation. We see that torsion cannot induce neutrino oscillation, but affects it whenever oscillation exists for other reasons. We show that the torsion effect on neutrino oscillation is as important as the neutrino mass effect, whenever the ratio of neutrino number ...

TORSIONAL OSCILLATIONS OF NONBARE STRANGE STARS [PDF]
Strange stars are one of the possible compact stellar objects that can be formed after a supernova collapse. We consider a model of strange star having an inner core in the color-flavor locked phase surmounted by a crystalline color superconducting layer.

Flexural–torsional buckling of thin-walled composite box beams [PDF]
Buckling of an axially loaded thin-walled laminated composite is studied. A general analytical model applicable to the flexural, torsional and flexural–torsional buckling of a thin-walled composite box beam subjected to axial load is developed.

Torsional oscillations of a sphere in a Stokes flow [PDF]
The results of an experimental investigation of a sphere performing torsional oscillations in a Stokes flow are presented. A novel experimental set up was developed which enabled the motion of the sphere to be remotely controlled through application of an oscillatory magnetic field.

Dynamics of large-scale structures and heat transfer in turbulent mixed convection [PDF]
Low frequency oscillations have been observed in the heat transfer of mixed convection in a rectangular cavity with an aspect ratio of $\Gamma_{\mathrm{xz}} = 1$ and $\Gamma_{\mathrm{yz}} = 5$.~Mixed convective flow at $Ra = 2.4 \times 10^8$, $Re = 1.0 ...

Phase-Controlled Thyristor Sub-Synchronous Damper Converter for a Liquefied Natural Gas Plant
In electrified liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants variable frequency drives (VFDs) interact with turbine-generator (TG) units creating torsional vibrations known as sub-synchronous torsional interactions (SSTIs). Torsional vibrations can be dangerous for

Torsional Oscillations of the Earth [PDF]
Summary Making use of the variational calculus method developed in a previous paper, we calculate the free periods of torsional oscillations for two Earth models. In the Model, the Earth is assumed to be composed of homogeneous mantle and core. In the Model 2, we use the mantle structure model by Jeffreys and Bullen.

PATENT ACTIVITY IN THE AREA OF PNEUMATIC COUPLINGS DEVELOPMENT AND THEIR APPLICATION IN MECHANICAL SYSTEMS [PDF]
Mechanical systems with combustion engines, compressors, pumps and fans, can be characterized as torsionally oscillating mechanical system (TOMS). It is therefore necessary to control their dangerous torsional vibrations.
