Cold tolerance and trehalose accumulation in overwintering larvae of the codling moth, Cydia pomonella (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae)

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2007
Seasonal variations in the supercooling point, survival at low temperatures and sugar content were studied in field-collected codling moth larvae. The supercooling point of field-collected larvae decreased significantly from a mean value of -13.4°C in ...

Exploring marking methods for the predatory hoverfly Sphaerophoria rueppellii (Diptera: Syrphidae)

open access: yesInsect Science, Volume 33, Issue 3, Page 1109-1122, June 2026.
As important pollinators and predators of aphids, hoverflies play an important role in ecosystems. This study focuses on identifying the best marking technique for the model species Sphaerophoria rueppellii that can be used to track hoverfly feeding and oviposition sites, evaluating three methods: rubidium (RbCl), fluorescein, and fluorescent dusts ...

The complete mitochondrial genome of Spilonota lechriaspis Meyrick (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae)

open access: yes, 2010
We determined the nucleotide sequence of the mitochondrial genome (mtgenome) of Spilonota lechriaspis Meyrick (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae). The entire closed circular molecule is 15,368 bp and contains 37 genes with the typical gene complement and order ...

Parasitic behavior of Amobia distorta (Diptera: Miltogramminae) and defensive behavior of its hosts, Anterhynchium spp. (Hymenoptera: Vespidae: Eumeninae)

open access: yesEntomological Science, Volume 29, Issue 2, June 2026.
The parasitic behaviour of Amobia distorta and the defensive behaviour of its hosts, Anterhynchium flavomarginatum (native species) and A. gibbifrons (probably non‐native), were observed. Abstract Two Anterhynchium species, A. flavomarginatum and A. gibbifrons, are solitary tube‐renting eumenine wasps that occur sympatrically in Japan.

Complete mitochondrial genome of Phiaris dolosana (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae)

open access: yesMitochondrial DNA. Part B. Resources, 2019
We describe the complete mitochondrial genome of Phiaris dolosana. It is 15,562 bp in length, and contains 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes (tRNAs), 2 ribosomal RNA genes (rRNAs), and a 612 bp D-Loop.

Response to a report published by the Office for Risk Assessment & Research of the Netherlands Food and Product Safety Authority on three EFSA quantitative pest risk assessments

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 24, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract A report commenting on three quantitative pest risk assessments (qPRA) of the EFSA PLH Panel (Panel) was published in November 2025 by the Office for Risk Assessment & Research (BuRO) of the Netherlands Food and Product Safety Authority. In that report, the approaches applied by the Panel in three qPRA were narratively scrutinised against an ...

Optimizing Sex Ratio and Colony Size to Enhance Reproduction and Mass‐Rearing in Spodoptera litura Under Controlled Laboratory Conditions

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 5, May 2026.
Skewed sex ratios frequently constrain colony performance and limit the efficiency of large‐scale rearing systems. For Spodoptera litura, the 1:1 initial sex ratio maximizes female longevity and fecundity. When this ratio is scaled to colony sizes of 20:20, 40:40 and 60:60, the 40:40 configuration yields the best overall reproductive performance, while
