Gallium Microalloying in Bi–Sn Solders: Interfacial Phase Formation, Wettability, and Long‐Term Shear Reliability Under Isothermal Aging

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Gallium microalloying redirects interfacial reactions in low‐temperature Bi–Sn solders from Cu–Sn toward Cu–Ga intermetallic formation. The resulting Cu–Ga layer suppresses intermetallic growth during thermal aging, alters fracture pathways, and improves interfacial stability.

Analysis of particle-laden fluid flows, tortuosity and particle-fluid behaviour in metal foam heat exchangers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Tortuosity and porosity are critical parameters for characterizing fluid flow in porous media. These parameters are of paramount importance in the design of porous compact heat exchangers, packed bed reactors, and catalysis supports; however, in the ...

Morphology, Transport, and Dynamics of Protein Adsorption in Open‐Cell Metal Foam

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stainless steel (SS) open‐cell foams are shown to adsorb more protein per unit area than previously reported 316L SS and chromium oxide surfaces under static and flow conditions. An integrated approach combining 3D pore imaging, flow simulation, and protein adsorption experiments characterizes the foam’s performance.

Diffuse Tortuosity and Lengthening of the Arteries [PDF]

open access: yesCirculation, 1967
This article describes the case of a 10-year-old girl with generalized tortuosity and lengthening of all her major arteries-the carotid arteries, the aorta from the arcus to the bifurcation, and the iliac, femoral, splenic, hepatic, renal, and intercostal arteries. The condition appears to be a new entity. Pertinent abnormalities were as follows: gross

Predicted tortuosity of muds

open access: yes, 2006
Tortuosity figures prominently in geochemical, hydrological, and geophysical calculations concerned with sediments, but it is a difficult parameter to measure.

Control of Polarization and Polar Helicity in BiFeO3 by Epitaxial Strain and Interfacial Chemistry

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In BiFeO3 thin films, the interplay of interfacial chemistry, electrostatics, and epitaxial strain is engineered to stabilize homohelicity in polarization textures at the domain scale. The synergistic use of a Bi2O2‐terminated Aurivillius buffer layer and a highly anisotropic compressive epitaxial strain offers new routes to control the polar‐texture ...

Arterial tortuosity syndrome

open access: yesDefinitions, 2020
As its name suggests, arterial tortuosity syndrome is characterized by blood vessel abnormalities, particularly abnormal twists and turns (tortuosity) of the blood vessels that carry blood from the heart to the rest of the body (the arteries). Tortuosity

Modeling Tortuosity in Fibrous Porous Media using Computational Fluid Dynamics

open access: yes, 2009
Tortuosity factor is often used to characterize the structure of the pore volume in fibrous porous media. This work involves the determination of tortuosity using computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulation and particle tracking analysis.
