Ion Superhighways in a Hierarchical Polymer‐Ceramic Membrane Enable Rapid and Selective Lithium Extraction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A flexible PDMS‐LATP polymer‐ceramic membrane creates lithium‐ion “superhighways” for rapid and selective extraction from complex brines. The amorphous PDMS matrix suppresses nonselective leakage and stabilizes the ceramic network, while LATP provides preferential Li+ conduction.

Tortuosity of porous media: Image analysis and physical simulation

Earth-Science Reviews, 2021
Tortuosity is widely used as a critical parameter to predict transport properties of porous media, such as rocks and soils. But unlike other standard microstructural properties, the concept of tortuosity is vague with multiple definitions and various ...

Mechanical and Geometrical Tortuosities: Vanishing and Appearing Tortuosities

SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition, 2021
ABSTRACT Tortuosity is one of the critical factors to be considered for complex directional well trajectories, complicated build rates, precise steering in thin reservoirs, and extended reach wells. This paper discusses the pitfalls of estimating tortuosity to quantify borehole quality and answers questions, such as whether the claimed ...

Measurement and classification of retinal vascular tortuosity

open access: yesInternational Journal of Medical Informatics, 1999
Automatic measurement of blood vessel tortuosity is a useful capability for automatic ophthalmological diagnostic tools. We describe a suite of automated tortuosity measures for blood vessel segments extracted from RGB retinal images.

Ultrahigh-Capacity and Scalable Architected Battery Electrodes via Tortuosity Modulation.

ACS Nano, 2021
A thick electrode with high areal capacity is a straightforward approach to maximize the energy density of batteries, but the development of thick electrodes suffers from both fabrication challenges and electron/ion transport limitations. In this work, a

Arterial Tortuosity

1988
Vessel curvature or tortuosity has usually been ignored in haemodynamic studies of the vasculature, vessels are commonly assumed to be straight and axisymmetric. This assumption is generally not valid and even for those vessels which are relatively straight in early life, such as the abdominal aorta, there is a tendency to develop tortuosity with ...
