Does ‘race to fish’ behaviour emerge in an individual transferable quota fishery when the total allowable catch becomes non‐binding?

Fish and Fisheries, 2013
AbstractSuccessful individual transferable quota (ITQ) management requires a binding (constraining) total allowable catch (TAC). A non‐binding TAC may result in a shift back towards open access conditions, where fishers increasingly compete (‘race’) to catch their share of the total harvest.

Hybrid total allowable catch strategy can sustain productive mixed fisheries and conserve both target and non-target species

Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences
Total allowable catches (TACs) are vital for managing fishing pressure and preventing overfishing. However, single-species TACs (SSTACs) in multispecies fisheries often lead to bycatch and choking-species issues, where fisheries close prematurely when the TAC for one species is met.

A Comparative Study of Total Allowable Catch Between Jeju, South Korea, and the Gulf of Mexico, United States

Society for Jeju Studies
Topshell catch by Haenyeo (women divers) has been one of Jeju's economically significant harvests of marine living resources. Total allowable catch (TAC) has been introduced to restore the topshell stock. This paper examines the impacts of the TAC regulation on topshells in Jeju through a comparative study with the red snapper TAC in the Gulf of Mexico

Lisbon and Access to Justice for Environmental NGOs: A Watershed? A Case Study Using the Setting of the Total Allowable Catches under the Common Fisheries Policy

On the need to exclude the sterlet of the Severnaya Dvina river from the list of species for which the total allowable catch is establishing

Fisheries
Sterlet т the Severnaya Dvina river is not in demand by fishery due to the peculiarities of its distribution during the periods allowed for fishing. The development of the volumes of sterlet issued to users in 2012-2021 amounted to 19.5-43.4%, and the development of the total allowable catch is even less - 7.9-36.1%.
