Rationale and design of the randomized COmparison of Methods for Pulmonary blood flow Augmentation: Shunt versus Stent (COMPASS) trial: A Pediatric Heart Network study

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, Volume 104, Issue 4, Page 637-647, October 1, 2024.
Abstract Neonates with congenital heart disease (CHD) and ductal‐dependent pulmonary blood flow (DD‐PBF) require early intervention. Historically, this intervention was most often a surgical systemic‐to‐pulmonary shunt (SPS; e.g., Blalock–Thomas–Taussig shunt).

Desaturation after Fontan procedure due to systemic venous collateral and improvement after closure with embolization

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 12, Issue 9, September 2024.
Key Clinical Message Systemic to pulmonary venous collaterals (SPVCs) are common findings in patients with Fontan and may be responsible for desaturation in this group of patients. In selected cases, percutaneous closure of SPVCs with coils or vascular plugs could be offered as a safe and effective treatment modality for these patients.

Validating the Concept of Mechanical Circulatory Support with a Rotary Blood Pump in the Inferior Vena Cava in an Ovine Fontan Model

open access: yesBioengineering
Right-sided mechanical support of the Fontan circulation by existing devices has been compounded by the cross-sectional design of vena cava anastomosis to both pulmonary arteries. Our purpose was to investigate whether increasing inferior vena cava (IVC)

Univentricular heart - perioperative management strategy

open access: yesJournal of Pediatric Critical Care, 2014
The term univentricular heart encompasses a wide variety ofheart defects that functionally andphysiologically. constitute a single ventricle chamber.

Extracardiac total cavopulmonary connection after superior cavopulmonary connection for left isomerism.

open access: yesAnnals of thoracic and cardiovascular surgery : official journal of the Association of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons of Asia, 2000
We report the case of a 3-year-old boy who underwent definitive conversion to the Fontan circulation after total cavopulmonary shunt using a total extracardiac right heart bypass. This simple, safe and reproducible procedure is an alternative to Fontan or total cavopulmonary connection procedure.

Total cavopulmonary connection--early results.

open access: yesIndian heart journal, 1994
Presently total cavopulmonary connection is used as an alternative in complex congenital disorders requiring atriopulmonary connection. From January 1989 till November, 1992, a total of 18 cases underwent total cavopulmonary connection. There were 8 males and 10 females. The mean age at operation was 92 months (range 5 to 504 months).

Transient Hemodynamic Changes upon Changing a BCPA into a TCPC in Staged Fontan Operation: A Computational Model Study

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2013
The clinical benefits of the Fontan operation in treating single-ventricle defects have been well documented. However, perioperative mortality or morbidity remains a critical problem.

Plastic Bronchitis: Extensive Cast Expectoration in a 6-Year-Old Boy with Fontan Circulation

open access: yesDiagnostics
We report on a 6-year-old boy with underlying hypoplastic left heart syndrome and a total cavopulmonary connection (Fontan circulation) with a diagnosis of plastic bronchitis.
